LifeNRA
Now mind you I have not shot anywhere close to 10,000 hits into this thing! Probably shot about 200 hits with just my broadheads and about 1000 with the field tips. Those numbers are also probably high as well. But here is what is happening now! Arrows are now showing through the other side! Target is really getting shredded up! BTW, I have the BH and FT hitting the same spot! That first picture has a big hole from the BH's! Shooting well, cant say that about my target anymore! I was hitting the black circles really well, but after this long shooting session I started to throw them around a bit! I figured it was time to stop when my arm started shaking! LOL! What is the best Broadhead target???
buckee
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! Turn it around and start shooting the other side John. You might just get a few more rounds out of it. Yeah, once you start burying the fletchings, it starts getting a bit expensive on arrow fletchings. LifeNRA
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! Yeah I was going to do that but I am just a little ticked off because this target is not holding up as well as they claim! Dont get me wrong! Its a great target for FT's! But no way for BH's! TreeWalker
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! I don't care what anybody says, the block targets are not meant for broadheads....and both the block and black hole don't stand up to field points like I expected either.......their new 6-sided target may be the way to go......but there's also some great broadhead targets out there now........I suggest getting one for each....a target for broadheads and one for field points... JimT
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! I am with iminrut...No target is going to last after being hit with boradheads hundreds of times. I have a seperate bh target..Hoping to get a few years out of it. tedicast
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! The block is an awesome target, and will definately last like they say it will....until you start shooting broadheads at it. No layered foam target will last with broadheads. I'm actually surprised it looks that good after 200 BH's. Morrel makes a broadhead target called the Yellow Jacket. $39 at Cabelas. Well worth the money. Hold up very well to broadheads. This is the second year of my bro and I shooting fixed blade heads into it, and it is no worse for the wear.
TreeWalker
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! Tedicast, you must have gotten an exceptional block target then, because I know I didn't get a couple thousand shots out of mine with field points and it was sinking arrows past the fletchings........all the clubs in our area are getting rid of their Block target butt set-ups and going with a different manufacturer....they just don't hold up, even when flipped or rotated.........now mine, was the smaller, totable model, so I imagine the depth compared to the big blocks was an issue, but man, it still should have lasted longer than it did.........it was amazing when i first got it, the arrow stopping is great, but after owning one, I'm just not that impressed.....I mean they last longer than a bag target, but at least bags are alot cheaper to replace.... Like I said, if i was gonna go with a Block now, it would be their new six sided target......that would probably be worth the investment.... I forgot abou that Morrell jellow Jacket....supposed to be the cat's meow (sorry JB, LOL)
bigbuckdown70
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! me and some buddies have 10 block targets (are should say had) and we have little shots about 3 days a week and they didnt last no time (about 1 years worth of shoting) couldnt tell you how many hits but there is quit a few 1 of them budies has 1 that we uses at his house and he has had it for 4 years now but we shitched to the glendale deer just got theme this year dont know how good the will stand up though i guess time will tell

dogdoc
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! yep--i agree. Broadheads just tear them up. Take a ratchet strap and wrap it around the block and tighten the ratchet up---that will compress the foam and give your target more life. good luck todd
tedicast
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! Iminrut...My bro and I have been shooting at a block that he bought in 2003. It sits in his yard all year around. It is getting to the point now where certain sections will sink you pretty close to the fletch. Never had a pass through though. VTbowman
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! I never thought that layered foam over solid foam was a "better" target medium to start with. I mean its alreay 1/2 seperated before the very 1st shot! Self healing foam is 100x better IMO. "Layered Foam Technology" is just the target industries new gimic. Shoot broadheads into anything and it get cut up not punctured so it will break down and fail a lot faster. Shoot them into a layer foam target and all your doing is adding different plain cuts along with foam thats already cut up. Fails even faster. I would never spend the money on those type of targets. ruttinbuc
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! There is no target out there that will take the cutting from broadheads. Some may last longer than others, but not by a whole lot. I use big pieces of styrofoam that can only be shot and turned so many times. Those who market these targets are very careful around the number of broadhead hits their product can take.
Guest shtr
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! The Rhinehart block is the best I have seen and it wont take more than maybe 1000 shots from a broadhead. I am always surprised to see that shock and surprise out of bowhunters Its as if they think archery manufactures are somehow diffrent from any other manufacturer! LOL!...Buyer beware and always half the numbers of ANY claim to be safe and satisfied

ksdeerhunter03
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! I suggest for broadheads the Rhinehart cube, its an amazing target, and they challenged the block 100,000 dollars that thier target would last longer than the block! LifeNRA
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! Hey rut, my target was looking great until I started using BH! I will probably be buying another block next year. But I can tell you it will only be used for FT's!!! I will look into the Morel for BH's! Adjam5
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! I have to say my Black Hole target is not holding up well either. Pass thrus also. I cant remember where I read this, but one magazine said to pack the block type layered targets as they wear with some plastic bags. Like the kind they give you in Walmart. Stuff them in there good and it will give you some more life to it. I expect a target to last atleast 2 years. My 3 sons and I, all shoot archery, so I can see where my target takes a beating. The plastic bag stuffing trick works. Give it a shot. No pun intended
Guest antlers21
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! I think I have somewhere around 6000 shots into my block and it is very wore but still is stopping my arrows from my switchback. It is burying them pretty deep though. I may need to buy a new one next year. I am shooting 282 fps with GT 5575 XT Hunters and it is still stopping them. Maybe some are made better and some are not????? [/ QUOTE ] I highly disagree!!! These kind of targets are meant to shot with "BROADHEADS"!!! I do agree that by using a different target for fieldpoints would be a better way to go. The Morrel eternity target is an awesome target for using field tipped arrows only, and will last you many years!!
Doc
Re: Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!! The person who comes up with the perfect broadhead target is going to be very rich. It is pretty obvious that very few materials are really going to defeat the purpose of a broadhead, which is to chop, cut and shred. Generally, I buy a sacrificial styrofoam "cheapie" that will last 1 year. And the only reason that I can get it to last 1 year is that I don't start practicing with my broadheads until about 1 or 2 weeks before the season and then a few shots each day during the season. Actually for most of the year, there is really no reason for shooting your broadheads. My broadhead shooting is only to verify that the bow is tuned and sighted properly and that there are no surprises. Doc

I have it set up right next to my bag target. I will shoot BH into the Yellow Jacket and FT into the bag target. The Yellow Jacket is holding up extremely well. Definitely worth the $48 with shipping I paid for it!
