Jeramie
I love my horses, they are like my kids. They get worked but they sure are important to me. I posted about a new colt that was born 8/12. She almost didn’t make it. We had to force feed her Colostrum that morning. Had we not done that she would have been gone in a couple of hours. I worried about her all day at work. She was a little premature and was the mare's first colt (and she’s roughly 13). The pic below was the next day (I believe, cant remember). She's actually a little over a week old and doing very well. She has filled out from this pic and looks a lot more sold. She feels good too... Although her head is still to big... This is a pic I tried to take of her mom but as you can see the baby was doing much better the next day! She now runs and bucks a lot. I have no doubt she’ll make it now. She’s pretty much “out of the woods.” She stands next to the two mares and her older ½ sister and eats hay. She thinks she’s full grown. This is a pic of my Stud, Buckaroo Zan’s Dandy. (aka: roo). We fought and fought to get him to put on weight. For some reason he looked as if I have never feed him. Finally at about 2 ½ years old he started to fill out and the testosterone did its job. He’s now roughly 15 hands and still sprouting. He still has a lot of growing to do but he’s finally filling out. Unfortunately im going to geld him this fall. I don’t need any line breeding and 6-horses is more then enough for right now. He’s already as gentle as any horse I’ve handled so once gelded he should be a big baby. I hate to do it because of his nature and his great, great bloodlines but sometimes you just have to do things. This is Roo’s first Colt. She was born on Independence day so we dubbed her “Inde.” She is a little over a month and is a beautiful colt! I work with my colts so she’s already leading, backing, lifting all 4’s etc. She was a beautiful bay but im afraid shes actually going to turn black as you can see from her “spots.” Hopefully she will grow away from the black. She would make a nice bay. She’s big too! Seriously, this pic does her no justice. Last but not least is my buddy Whisper. He’s my 6-year old puppy dog gelding. I would trust a 2 year old around this horse. I’ve watched him cower at a little girl because he wouldn’t drop his head for her to scratch between his ears. He’s literally priceless to me and I paid $10 for him. He’s really starting to grey and I like it! All of my horses are finally filled back out. I had them “lotted” until I could finish closing on my place. They lost a lot of weight and I felt horrible but they are officially once again spoiled. Turkeygirl
Re: My horses (Including pics of the new colt) Great looking horses Jeramie and that is one adorable foal (most are though, lol). When my sister's mare foaled, the filly was almost as small as yours, but the mare is like 14.2, and the filly filled in fast. She's 6 years old now I think. I own a sweet old Quarter horse gelding, Checkers Royal Charm. He is like your horse Whisper, you can trust him with a little kid, he is awesome! By the way I don't think your one foal is going to turn black. She looks like she may be either a bay or dark chestnut. They'll sometimes get dark spots when shedding out, like my sister's filly does.

womanwhohunts
Re: My horses (Including pics of the new colt) Those are some good lookng horses.I really like your dun/gray mare.Did you know gray hores have a merleing gene that almost always they have a colt that matches the stud.my mares have done that 6 times. The only down side was my black and white filly turned into a gray and white mare.Foals are funny that they change color so easy.A really black foal will gray-out and a lighter colored foal will darken. Jeramie
Re: My horses (Including pics of the new colt) [ QUOTE ] Fine looking horses, I like the stallion. Do you breed him to outside mares or anything?? [/ QUOTE ] Sure. I actually offered him out to an other member in here. He just turned 3 in June and he sure is a pretty thing. He looks better and better every day. Im still having him cut this fall/ winter to avoid line breeding but if anyone wants a colt, seriously, let me know. Because he is being cut I have nothing to loose.
Jeramie
Re: My horses (Including pics of the new colt) [ QUOTE ] nice Horses. What do you use them for? [/ QUOTE ] Pleasure. Thats pretty much it. We live roughly 2.5 miles from the Rodeo grounds and we want to join the round up club so thats comming after the wife has our baby. I grew up pushing cattle with horses and got out of them but my wife talked me into them again. Now im as hooked as i ever was. We just like to ride mostly. Jeramie
Re: My horses (Including pics of the new colt) We just ride now. My grandparents/ parents are still running roughly 350 head of beef cattle but I rarely work them anymore. Most everyone is on a quad now days too. We still drag out the horses but theyre all over the ranch so one or two of them get saddled. If I do help I dont have to load any of mine and take them out.
