I'm an IDIOT!!

Ok you guys are going to love this. My friend Wild_Bill has a .445 super mag and we wanted to get it sighted in right. He's been plinking with it but never sighted it in. Anywho He was shooting high so I said "screw the rear sight down a bit". He said "no, you need to screw it up." I thought and said "yeah, your right. Screw it up." He did and was still shooting high. But we KNEW we had turned the screw the right way. We kept going up up up. And finally convinced ourselves something must be wrong with the gun.

I thought about it later that day and realized we WERE doing it wrong. I know better than that. I've been shooting all my life but we've become so used to scopes that the simplest of procedures can get really confusing. I felt like a complete dunce.

Then later that day I wanted to sight in my .350 since I had changed to a different scope. I bore sighted it by looking down the barrel at the target and then through the scope to see how far of I was. The crosshairs were about a foot left. Once again I screwed the wrong way and it took me forever to figure that one out. If you think about it the crosshairs were left, but the bore was dead on. If you move the knob to the right> your actually moving the crosshairs further left. Which makes you shoot further right. Make sense? Well it didn't then. I just got about 20 yards out and did it the old fashioned way by walking in the shots. What a dummy.

Sometimes you just feel stupid!! And believe me I did. tongue.gif

Re: I\'m an IDIOT!!

Believe me, you are not the first to do that. When it becomes nasty is when the gun has fixed sights and the shooter is filing or bending the sight to get it zeroed. It's harder to replace metal than turn a screw the other direction and shoot more.
