Griz
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN Well I shoot with both eyes open. You get a better picture at what your aiming at... Just my opinion...
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN Both open with a shotgun or handgun, one closed for a scoped rifle. I never could get the knack of shooting a scope with both open.

tedicast
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN Until last year I shot 1 eye closed. My bro finally talked me into trying both open. It took a while to be able to do it, without thinking about it, but now it is second nature to me. You get a much better sight picture with both eyes open, but I honestly don't think it will help you untill you are 100% comfortable shooting that way. tedicast
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN Another thing to keep in mind is this. If you shoot with one hand, but your opposite eye is dominant, you may not be able to shoot with both eyes open.

Shaun_300
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN I shoot with one eye closed 100% of the time. I guess that was just the way I was taught, so that's how I do it.

I think if I would try it any other way, it would mess me up

It took me about a month of shooting quite often, to be able to shoot with both eyes open, and not have to remind myself to do this. Now when I close one eye, it's like having tunnel vision
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN So it's better with both eyes open? I need to try it I guess. I just think it would be weird. If I miss a deer this season because of this, I know who to blame
dg
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN There is no one or right answer. What works for some may not for others. Shoot what makes you comfortable. Eye condition and glasses will cause differences.
christsavedme
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN I do both....with my bow or shotgun or open sights on rifle or handgun....I shoot with both open....when I use a scope I close one! Can't focus with both open on the scope.
Palssonater
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN I shoot right handed but my left eye is dominant. I've always shot with one closed for rifle, but was taught that both eyes is proper with a shotgun. I went a couple of years(to shellmakers delight) shooting with both eyes open. Then one day, I closed an eye on my shotgun and starting picking off birds left and right. My trap scores went up to 23 out of 25 and I was just an all around better shooter. So to this day I shoot with one eye closed. I try on clays every once in a while, but it neverworks.
leatherneck
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN I shoot shot gun with both eyes open, but rifle open sites or scope, pistol and bow I close my left eye.
Tominator
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN Depth perception would be better with both eyes open, but for cross eye dominant folks like me, it could be worse, especially with wing shooting. waterfowler_gal
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN I help teach firearm safety and they teach to shoot with both eyes open. If you are one eye dominant they will cover that eye with a sticker on the safety glasses. I keep them open shooting but bow I am left eye dominant and right handed so I close that right eye
HarvDog
Re: SHOOTING BOTH EYES OPEN I shoot with both eyes closed......actually just my left eye closed. I tried keeping both open when shooting my bow and I just couldn't get the sight aligned. Any tips? I'd like to try it again.

[/ QUOTE ] Harv...at first you can try drawing and anchoring with one eye closed, the opening your eye after you are anchored. Your anchor point should bring your peep to the same spot regardless if you have 1 eye open or 2. It just takes some getting used too. You aren't cross dominant are you?
