Jeramie
I was sent some G5 Montecs (Courtesy of another forum member). Thanks bud, you know who you are. They have been shot into a target and are a bit to dull for season. I have one of the small diamond sharpeners (for hooks and such) and I also have some Arkansas stones, Scissor sticks, etc. What is the best way to get these bad boys sharp again? Will one of the Broadhead sharpeners at Wally World work? So I try the small diamond stick? What does everyone else use?
mainebuck
Re: How do I sharpen the G5 Montec? I used a Gerber diamond stone last year. It took a little time but I got them pretty sharp.

buckee
Re: How do I sharpen the G5 Montec? Yeah, I use the G5 stone too. It's nice and big and does a great job. Heck I use that stone for sharpening all the knives in the house too.
Guest shtr
Re: How do I sharpen the G5 Montec? If they could be sharpened they would come sharp. Good idea for a head but it will be the death of you if you are a hard core sharp freak. It just wont happen. I send mine back with the sharpener. And that's after I've shot one through a deer, the other 2 through targets and then sharpened them with a diamond stone I got at Bass Pro. And to answer your question Jeramie, I use a large flat diamond stone I got at Bass Pro. Just lay it flat and push forward with the same amount of strokes on each side. Then use a buffer or leather belt to polish them and that ahould do it.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, they do, but for the money, you might as well buy the regular broadheads and set 3 aside for using for practice.....that way, if you need another broadhead, just sharpen em up and your set to go. Montec G5's were made for folks who don't mind doing their own broadhead sharpening as opposed to buying new insert-blades all the time. Heck I used to sharpen my own inserts, because I was too cheep to buy new ones, so the Montecs are nothing new to me.

G5 changed the bevel angle on the Montec blades about a year ago so they would sharpen better. The new ones use a circular sharpening motion. Guest shtr
Re: How do I sharpen the G5 Montec? Strut10! Hey...why didnt they put that in thier ad work?. Biggest complaint has been due to that 30degree angle. Maybe I will try again!? I have always liked the design
Guest 2500HD
Re: How do I sharpen the G5 Montec? I have the stone and it works OK but I now use 600 grit automotive wet/dry sand paper on a flat surface (glass) and wet sand them until they are razor sharp. Takes the same amount of time for better results than the stone IMO. You can use a finer grit to get a little better edge too.
Strut10
Re: How do I sharpen the G5 Montec? [ QUOTE ] Hey...why didnt they put that in thier ad work?. [/ QUOTE ] That, I can't tell ya. I just happened to be talking to guy from G5 at Cabela's last weekend & that's what he told me. From what I can see, the new designed head has shorter blades and a little beefier ferrule. They also have the grain weight stamped at the base of a blade.

Just rub it back and forth away from the edge until they shine. Also very carefully!!!!!!!!
