StillLearnin
Around here we have mostly small ponds scattered thoughout the countryside most have a few ducks one them thourghout the year like the one i hunted all last year. But I noticed that the drainage ditch behind my house, maybe 10 yards wide and 6" deep, was like a highway for ducks. Granted i'm in town and can't hunt here it but if i could I'm talking a limit in an hour easy! So it made me rethink my statagy. I finished printing of topo maps all around my home town. Now most of them won't hold water all year around but a few will they, will be my focus. Now i just have to find some friendly land owners and oil the o'll 12 gauge. Anyways i was wondering what kind of waters ya'll like to hunt? Lakes, rivers streams, ponds? what have you had the most success with? Thanks for the reply. dogdoc
Re: What kind of water do you like to hunt the most? I prefer hunting private ponds so I don't have to worry about competing with other duck hunters--my calling stinks
JimPic
Re: What kind of water do you like to hunt the most? For ducks I usually hunt them over decoys on creeks-sometimes I'll walk the creek banks and jump shoot them.On the rare occassions I hunt geese(don't like eating them),I hunt fields that they feed in or fly by to get to where they wanna go. huntn4bucks
Re: What kind of water do you like to hunt the most? Welcome to the forums StillLearnin! I do most of my hunting on Guntersville Lake which is Alabama's largest lake consisting of over 69,000 acres. It's public water and you have to get to your spot early but it makes for some great hunting. Here's a pic of the main area that I hunt:
