Re: Poison Ivy...........

I get Poisin Ivy when I am in the same county with it...

Once in the Army I got it between my fingers. One of the guys I was with had studied herbal medicines. He crushed some Stinging Nettles & rubbed them on it. It was dried up in about a day..

I heard there is a new over the counter treatment that you can see it drying up in about 1/2 hr..Don't know what it's called, but I would ask the pharmisist.

Re: Poison Ivy...........

There is stuff that used to be called Rhuli Gel that works pretty good. I think it goes under the Band-Aid brand called anti-itch gel. Pharmacist would know.

Best thing for it is a swim in the ocean. Since there is no ocean nearby a hot salt bath after opening the poison by scratching some will suffice.

No, Lake Michigan is not the ocean! grin.gif Might be something in there to kill it though.

Re: Poison Ivy...........

Paul Harvey use to advirtise some stuff for poison ivy. For the life of me I can't think of the name of the stuff but it starts with a "Z"...

He says that it will get rid of it in about 30min.

I heard Wal-Mart and other drug stores carry it. But you have to ask them for it...

Worth a try...

Re: Poison Ivy...........

The stuff Paul Harvey advertises is Zanfel. It's decently effective for most people but a little pricey. I have yet to find anything that really works well for me. I just am pretty careful around it and if I think I've been in it I use this wash called Technu on my skin and clothes.

Re: Poison Ivy...........

My son got in to some poison Ivy at the lake a couple of weeks ago. We didn't know he had gotten in to it and thought he had gotten eaten by bugs. When the blisters didn't go away and appeared to have spread we took him in to the doctor. She prescribed a hydrocortisone cream stronger than what you can get over the counter. She also suggested Aveeno brand oatmeal baths to help relieve the itching.

Her treatment seemed to help him a lot.

Re: Poison Ivy...........

that is one thing that i am glad i have never had. my grandpa and i are the only two in the family that can play in the stuff and not ever get it. the rest of them can look in the same direction and they are going to the doc's to get a shot.

Re: Poison Ivy...........

I feel your pain. I really do. I got it SO bad this year I had to go the doc and get a shot. And even THAT didn't get rid of it fast enough. I usually scrub mine with salt and vinegar enough to break the tops and then douse it good with bleach. Stings like crazy but helps dry it up.

Re: Poison Ivy...........

Zenfel is the way to go.

When I get Poison Ivy, it spreads everywhere and fast. I've fought it all my life.

Last year, I got it and bought Zenfel (it's like $40 a tube!). I tried it per the directions and it still did not work the best. So then I took the stuff and SCRUBBED HARD on the poison ivy areas and then did not wash off the Zenfel. Just let it dry in place before I went to bed. By morning, the Poison Ivy was dried up pretty good. I had it all dried up after only two nights using the stuff.

I'm sold on the stuff now.

Re: Poison Ivy...........

I get it terrible. Once we were clearing a grown-up lot and burning a bunch of stuff, and i guess some got burned, and it was in the smoke. Anyway, the next day, my whole body was covered in rash and blisters. I went to the doc and he gave me prednizone, then i had to take outmeal baths. That is a very weird, but comforting sensation! It dried it up pretty well though. The worst places to get it is around the eyes and in between your fingers. It will drive you crazy! I feel for ya man!

Re: Poison Ivy...........

i hear you all. it sucks, i had it so bad a couple years ago on my face, it shut my right eye closed for a couple days. It just was a mess, then another year on my feet and that blistered up and i couldn't walk it was so painful. I hate this stuff. been alright with it this year but the ticks got me, ran into a nest of them, got over 40 deer tick bites on my right foot and over 30 on my left. then bites here and there on my legs, this was all at once, talk about serious itching.

Oh ... there is a place to get it worse. Lets just say that you should be real careful taking a leak after you've touched poison ivy in the woods. Trust me on this one. ooo.gif

The boyz tend to swell up like a blow fish! blush.gif

Not fun at all! crazy.gif
