BowJoe
They Probably would not be very lethal at all since they were acustomed to shooting instinctive longbows instead of these machines we shoot today. I think it would be as hard for them to wrap their minds around using a compound bow as it was for Fred Bear. He only shot a compound bow a few times in deer camp and it made him so mad that he never shot one again since it was so contrary to what he knew about his style of shooting. I think more than the equipment used was a reason for success in that time as much as it is in today's time. Let's face it, there are good hunters and bad hunters no matter when you live. I think that given the choice of your entire tribe starving or you becoming good at shooting a bow you would definately put a lot more practice into it than what we so called HardCoreHunters put into it today. It's a very good question but also an open book as to what they would think about using such equipment in the first place. I think it was more of the ability to get in close to game that made them so outstanding rather than the limited range in which they could actually shoot. joebobhunter4
Re: If they could only see... i dont think theyd do as good as they did because itd be hard to pull a bow back like today on a horse goin 40 miles an hour next to a buffalo... VtBowhunter
Re: If they could only see... I'll tell you what my Grandmother told me not too long ago......."Back when my grandfather's grandfather hunted, he did so with the simple tools of his day......you don't need that fancy stuff, you are Abenaki and you should honor your ancestor's ways." I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't even touch these modern bows.
