dogdoc
Re: Mossberg 835 [ QUOTE ] It states that an individual may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of their own state, or to a holder of an FFL in any state. Handguns are not mailable. [/ QUOTE ] I found this for you. You might want to check with the US Postal service to make sure this is the case. You might PM A.J.--I'm sure he'd know for sure. todd

VermontHunter
Re: Mossberg 835 Here's the deal Jason it is illegal to ship and or receive firearms unless you have a federal firearms license...... I found this basic shipping law on the UPS Site... Shipping Firearms Special Procedures for Shipping Firearms Use These UPS Services for Your Firearm Shipment Firearms will be transported only between licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and licensed collectors, as defined in the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, law enforcement agencies of the United States or of any department or agency thereof and law enforcement agencies of any state or department agency, or political subdivision thereof, and between persons not otherwise prohibited from shipping firearms by federal, state or local law and when such shipment complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws. You must ship your packages that contain handguns with UPS Next Day Air Early A.M.®, UPS Next Day Air®, or UPS Next Day Air Saver® services Your packages that contain firearms will not be accepted for shipment at UPS Drop Boxes, with UPS SonicAir® service, at locations of The UPS Store or any third-party retailer, or with international services. Most of us have local gun shops and have relationships with this gun shop owners,,,,,so I would say make arrangements with them and have it shipped that way...... Hope you have some luck with this Jason it sounds like a heck of a deal to start with..... Follow These Packing Requirements Your packages that contain handguns must be separated from other packages being delivered to UPS Ammunition cannot be included in your packages that contain firearms (including handguns) About Documentation and Labeling When you are shipping your package that contains a firearm with UPS, you must affix a UPS label requesting an adult signature upon delivery Getting Your Firearm Shipment to UPS You can only ship your package that contains a firearm from UPS daily pickup accounts and through UPS Customer Centers When you are shipping a package that contains a handgun, you must verbally notify the UPS driver or UPS Customer Center clerk You can use UPS daily pickup accounts to ship firearms, not including handguns, through UPS Internet Shipping, UPS On-Call PickupSM, and One-Time Pickup Your packages that contain firearms will not be accepted for shipment at UPS Drop Boxes, with UPS SonicAir® service, at locations of The UPS Store or any third-party retailer, or with international services See the terms and conditions in the UPS Tariff for shipping firearms
AJ
Re: Mossberg 835 [ QUOTE ] Here's the deal Jason it is illegal to ship and or receive firearms unless you have a federal firearms license...... I [/ QUOTE ] Not totally true. Individuals can ship firearms to FFL holders. Handguns have to go overnight but long guns can go however you want. The seller can ship to individuals inside their own state without going through FFL as long as their state law does not state otherwise. The owner of a gun can receive it by shipping from the manufacturer or a gunsmith. If you send a rifle action to a gunsmith to be re-barreled, refinished, etc they can ship it directly back to you. No middle man (FFL) needed. Per ATF: 1) You can't mail handguns. You must send them via a private carrier, such as UPS or FedEx. 2) You can send long guns-- rifles and shotguns-- via the Postal Service or a private shipper. 3) You are required to tell the shipper that there's a gun in the package. 4) Neither you nor the shippers can label or mark the package in any way or fashion as containing a gun. 5) You can send and receive gun parts with no restrictions. As long as the parts don't add up to a complete gun (or a receiver, which in the eyes of the law is a complete gun), you can send and receive a barrel, a firing pin, grips or other components in any manner your preferences and pocketbook dictate. 6) You can send a gun to any resident of your own state, whether or not that person is a federal licensee (gun dealer, manufacturer, collector, gunsmith or importer). Outside your state, you can send the gun only to a licensee. The instate/out-of-state distinction is made, an ATF spokesman says, because: "The Treasury Department's authority in these matters is derived from the interstate commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution." If a gun doesn't move across a state line, it's not interstate commerce. AJ

snapper
Re: Mossberg 835 I now have my FFL so its really not an issue...however, I tried sending a shotgun to GA before. Good luck finding someone to ship it. UPS, FED EX and USPS wouldn't do it. I had to go through an FFL and he had to ship it to another FFL holder. I guess the law says its ok...but the shipping carriers have their own rules.
