LifeNRA
I was going out today to do a mock hunt where I plan on bow hunting. Got up, showered with the Scent-a-away, got dressed, put the rubber boots in the truck. Then it started! RAIN!!!!!!! The DVD I got with the climber said not to climb when its rainning. What do you all do when its rainning? Hunt the ground?
VTbowman
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? Climbers of today use different means to attach themselves to tree now. Tree friended rubber coated straps or cables etc. Mine always had pointy stuff and steel bars around the back that dug in. However I use chain-on styles now. If it recommends not to use it in rain then I would abide by that. Unless you are very sure the trees your climbing have rough enough bark to prevent slippage. They could be just being carefull by issueing that warning. Some trees do get quite slick once wet... Be safe! Hunt the ground or another style stand.... christsavedme
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? I have never had a problem climbing in the rain. I have used stands with bars that dig in and rubber coated straps. You just have to be careful in the rain since the platform will be wet, but that goes with any stand in wet weather! booner1331
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? I still climb with mine, just climb slowly making sure your stand has a good bite. and I never climb a slick barked tree. and use your safety harness
Guest kyhunter1
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? I have never had a problem climbing in the rain either. Like mentiong above, just be picky with the tree you choose to climb and take your time assuring the stand has a good bite in the tree. The platform will be slick. I reccomend using non-skid tape to prevent slipage, you can buy it at wal-mart. never rush the climb, when hunting from a stand especially a climbing stand. Hope this helps, Be safe, use common sense Brandon

bigbuckdown70
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? whats more important climbing in the rain or falling and getting a broken something are nother and missig the hole season
johnf
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? Mine has a metal bar that bites in pretty good. I don't think rain affects it much if any. As said befor, the platform may be slick, but so could yor boots if you walk in a creek on a bone dry day. It's always good to slow down and be careful any time your climbing. You'll make less noise and attract less attention, and it's more safe.
Tominator
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? I climb the tree. Some trees like red oaks get pretty slippery, but I still climb and hunt. No problem.
ruttinbuc
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? I came down pretty hard one time using a Loggy Bayou with the rubber edge on the stand and hand climber. Came down about 20 ft. lickity split. I have since went to a Lone Wolf stand that has teeth to dig and hold the bark. I think the concern should be more for lightning in a rainstorm. Still when dealing with any element of mother nature caution must be taken. As someone posted previous. It is not worth taking unnecessary risks. Hunting the ground in the rain is a good option. py_archer
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? I use a summit with the teeth but not in the rain on smooth barked tree's. Rough bark no problem. Keep the tether short.
HarvDog
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? I haven't tried mine in the rain yet but if I do, I'll just go slow and be extra careful.
billygoat
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? Obviously, wet trees=slipperey trees. Does that mean I wouldn't climb or use an alternate stand... absolutely not. But I can guarantee you, every time I set my feet or the upper half of that climber, I would be making sure that I am getting a tight/deep dig... and for goodness sake, wear that harness (always). Good luck Nice to hear of someone getting there stand out and using it before the day of season, I think it makes a huge difference. Best of luck to you this year, John Goat

Guest Scrape Maker
Re: Rain and Tree Climbers??? Hunting in the rain is one of my favorite times to be in a stand.I use a Summit Viper XLT(rubber coated calbes) and it has never slipped in the rain.If you are worried about it find you a Pine tree or something with soft bark on rainy days and always wear your safety harness.
