Re: Somebody tell me what this is....

one of thwo things one is it;s a bear. the reason is the way it is scratching his ear. the other is a panther they are known but the way they animal is scratching it might be one but i would have to say unless you can get better pics if it;s a panther be careful and if it;s bear be careful either way someone could get into problems if you walk up at the wrong time

Re: Somebody tell me what this is....

James,

The width between those ears suggests either bear or cougar (or Panther). A coyote or dog, doesn't have that wide of a head.

The ear, could be a bear's, but doesn't quite look rounded enough to belong to a bear.(could be just the angle) It does however fit the profile of a Cougar's ear.

That thing is sitting and scratching very close to the camera. If it was a bear, it would have to be a young one, otherwise it would be much higher, with the camera only 3 ft off the ground. The lack of light, with just a silouette makes it tough too. Sure looks like a BIG cat. I've watched that clip about 20 times now grin.gif

I hope you can capture this mystery critter again on film. wink.gif

Re: Somebody tell me what this is....

Finally :-) Now I can see it:

I would say no doubt in my mind that it is a young bear: I have hunted/guided bears for 9 years. I have a ton of trail cam pics of a bear from behind: I would guess it is a young 110-140 black bear: Look at the front right rounded paw....bear to me.
