Guest BuckMaster058
Well just wondering if you shot the gun in yet or on the schedule for things to do? Me myself it is that time of the year and need to get a little practice in before opening day. Sort of in a slump and can't hit the broadside of a barn. I think I'm rushing my shot and just need to calm down and take my time.
VTbowman
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? I typically dont shoot mine until after the VT bowseason. Just so focused on bow. We have a 2 week down time between bow and rifle and I hit the bench then. Normally I only put a few rounds of 3 down to check the scope. Not a real big gun shooter all the time. I still hit very well out to 300+ yards free standing though.. LOL
Tom2008
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? I don't start shooting till like 2 weeks before gun season starts. Are gun season starts the first weekend in November.
Shaun_300
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? I shoot my rifle the saturday before deer season. But when I get my new scope I'm sure I'll sight it in a little earlier.
Guest lobsterman
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? i usually shoot a week before opening day, after gun season i dont touch the rifles, most of the time the scopes are still rite on... bulldawg
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? Just remember to keep your breathing under control, and squeeeeze the trigger. The shot should surprise you when the gun goes off. And follow through...don't move anything until the bullet has found it's way home. I usually can take a few shots a few weeks early, and either it will still be on, or I can get it that way in a hurry. Dawg
wtnhunt
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? We shoot a little all through the year. Put a new scope on the wifes .243 about a month ago and resighted it and shot it a few times. The wife shot it some as well, and was happpy with her groups. Have not shot the muzzleloader or the .270 real recently, probably will this next weekend. Need to get my 9 year old shooting the .243 some more really soon too. Guest BuckMaster058
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? Thanks guys for your replies. Especially Dawg thought that's what I had to do is just calm down and concentrate on the shot and find the mark.

FSU_Seminole
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? I take my guns to the range in May to shoot a couple of times then a couple of weeks out I'll go to the range 2 weekends in a row before the season to get a feel. I got my final zereo in my 06 done this past Saturday. My final round of shooting I shot a 5 shot group zereoed at 2.5 inches high at 100 yards. Each shot was within 1 inch. This was done with Remington Ultra Core Lokt factory ammo. Gun season starts this Saturday & I'm very confident & pleased to say the least. hutchies
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? What is the limit there libanes69? I have already went to the range. I shot this weekend and cracked one of the internal lenses on my new Simmons Aetec. Sent it off to Simmons today hope they get it back soon. AJ
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? Never too early to go shooting. The problem with most people is they don't shoot till just before deer season. Then if something went south they have to scramble. I have seen bedding change over a month on a wood stock that was not bedded. The gun shot great one day and bad the next outing. Get out early and practice. If you say its easy I don't need practice, step away from the bench and shoot a group offhand. When your offhand groups are twice the size of the benchrest groups, you can say you don't need practice.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? Freehand at 100 yards? Twice the size? Ha! I only wish my nerves were that steady. I'm happy with 5 times (about 5 inches) the size of the benchrest groups.
snapper
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? I'm sorta with AJ on this...the only time there is a "time to shoot the gun in" is when its new! I like to shoot as much as I can. Haven't been out as much as I'd liked this summer...but I started building my own range right next to the house! G-Daddy
Re: Time to shoot the gun in yet? I am working up a new load (.25-06) for my MT trip in Oct. I have been using 115 gr Nosler BTs, but wanted to try 110 gr Nosler Accubonds. I've been shooting just under MOA groups with the BTs and now have a load for the Accubonds that shoots to the same point of aim at around 1/2 MOA. I have three tags to fill in MT as well as 3 PA tags. Can't wait until late October to start "makin' her go".
