mathews4life
Well as many of u know the southern coast of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama was struck by the deadly force of hurricane Katrina. Luckily for our town we missed the major blow and only got moderate winds and rain but 2 hrs from my house which would put u in the center of new orleans they were pounded. I have many of my friends and family from the area and neither of them have a home to go to or their home stands w/ water up to the tops of their roofs. One of them lives here for college and his parents chose to stay behind and ride it out like many others and he has not heard from them since monday morning at about 6 am in a short phone conversation in which left him w/ little hope to believe they made it. His mother was telling him that there was already water fastly filling up the house and that the roof had just been torn off and then the phones cut out. This was a devistating blow not only to the south but no matter where u are in the states u will feel the affects of this storm. Some of u may get the weather but others will feel affects of the fiercely rising gas prices due to the major damages and shutting down of hundreds of oil platforms in the coast. I know many of u have heard about this through the news over and over again, but the news has does no justice. You dont realize whats going on until u see it first hand. There are ppl everywhere looking for shelter, sleeping on the sides of roads, sleeping in cars, and doing anything and everything just to get a decent meal. Everytime i leave my house i c these sights and it makes me realize how fortunate we are not to be going through this. So i would like for you guys to keep these people in your prayers for as long as possible bc there is a long road ahead and its only getting worse. There is goin to be a moment of prayer tomorrow 8-31-05, but i'm not sure of the time, but i will let u know as soon as possible. Thanks again, Mathews...... Shaun_300
Re: please pray All of you people down south definetly have my prayers. The remanince of the storm is hitting us overnight and tomorrow, nothing major is in the forcast, just windy and rain. Gas has gone up here from 96.7 cents/liter to $1.01/liter overnight. But when I think of everyone down there that has lots there homes, or lives, gas prices are the last thing I'm going to feel sorry for. Bruce Schmeck
Re: please pray Thanks for the info. I hope your friend's family and your friends and family are alive and well. I don't think the scope of this has really sunk in yet. Prayers sent. Keep us posted and glad to hear you're doing well.

RTF
Re: please pray Cannot believe you got away without any major damage living in southern LA. I cannot believe 40,000 + homes are also under water. I have watched many news broadcasts and am in total shock. Whats left of katrina has made it up here. We have had more rain in 24 hours then we have had all summer. 6+inches are called for in my region. We are now under tornadoe watches. Still I will take this over what you all got down south any day.
Newarcher
Re: please pray Prayers on the way! Why do people do that? Why do they stay? If nothing happens, you go home. If it does, there is nothing you can do about 175 mile an hour winds. You will more likely be shot by a looter if you are there. There really is absolutely nothing you gain by staying there. Prayers on the way. New
buckee
Re: please pray They are all in our prayers. We've been following this storm on TV and it's really heart breaking to see the devistation left behind.

[/ QUOTE ] From what I understand a lotta people in that area simply couldnt afford to leave, or had no where to go if they did leave. It would be a tough situation to be put in but realistically not everyone can afford to jump in the car and head outta state for the weekend. Guest TheNumber1Young1
Re: please pray Yea, its effecting us, and we live in Va. My dad is really stressed right now, because we dont know where my grandma is at, or even if she is alive. she has been in the hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi for 2 weeks now, and 4 days ago she had a massive heart attack, and passed away, they were able to revive her, but now we are worried if she is still alive or not, the phone lines are down at the hospital and everywhere down there, i guess all we can do is wait. ruttinbuc
Re: please pray Do we pray for the looters. I just heard of people looting dead bodies. I can see doing what one has to do to survive, but this is out right anarchy. Marshall Law needs to be imposed.
mathews4life
Re: please pray The looters are a disgrace to human society. You try to help them and they rob u for everything they can get. We wanted to go w/ our boats and help w/ the rescue but they are shooting ppl left and right just for a couple dollars or a bottle of water. These types of ppl dont deserve help. Their actions are putting in jeopardy the lives of the ppl who really deserve to be saved...JMO
Guest BuckMaster058
Re: please pray Prayers sent. Saw where they hijacked a bus, walking the streets with guns, robbing stores. But hope your family and friends are alright. Can't tell you what I would do if the shoe was on the other foot. Maybe we shouldn't judge what some are doing things are nuts down there. To get everything back in shape its going to take mnths. even yr(s.)
