HarvDog
Any suggestions on ammo for my new Ruger 357 magnum for the range and while "carrying"?

ZooBear
Re: Ammo for 357 magnum I use handloads for target shooting and Winchester Silvertips for home protection.
Guest ronin
Re: Ammo for 357 magnum I have used the Winchester Ranger SXT ammo for years. Back in the early 90's it had the name "Black Talon" which was slammed by NAACP in a knee jerk type reaction. I would recommend this stuff if you can find it. http://www.winchester.com/lawenforcement/testing/testing_pg.aspx
hangunnr
Re: Ammo for 357 magnum There are many good defense loads out there today. The aforementioned Winchester SXT (supreme expansion talon) is a good load. It is the same load as the Black Talon minus the black coating on the bullet. I wasn't aware that the NAACP was involved in the bruhaha surrounding it's removal from the marketplace. I was under the impression Winchester caved to the mess the liberal idiots in the national press spread about it being a cop killer bullet. I think it's funny as **** that Winchester could eliminate one manufacturing process from a bullet by not coating it, rename it, repackage it and put it back in the marketplace and the pants wetters in the press didn't have a problem with it. Goes to show the mentality........ Any of the defense loads from Corbon, Federal, Winchester or just about any mainstream manufacturer will perform well. The best one for your gun will only be found by trying them until you find the most accurate one. hangunnr

Guest ronin
Re: Ammo for 357 magnum I could be wrong about the NAACP being the big whiners but I was working the street at the time when civil rights groups, (and I think the NAACP was one of them), were screaming that it was a racial issue due to the name of the bullet...black talon. Most of the community could care less if it was considered a cop killer bullet...which is also stupid. Frankly, I never heard anyone complain about that. However, I heard a lot of BS from certain sectors of our community on the racial side. Some things never change.
LifeNRA
Re: Ammo for 357 magnum [ QUOTE ] The best one for your gun will only be found by trying them until you find the most accurate one. [/ QUOTE ] Thats the best thing you can do Harv! Try each one and see which shoots the best! Just like a turkey gun! I prefer Federal Hydro-Shok, the same ones the police use around here. http://www.federalcartridge.com/default.asp?menu=1&s1=
TexasDeerHunter
Re: Ammo for 357 magnum I shoot the Speer Gold Dot 125gr for self defense. At the range I use some Cowboy loads which are produced by Federal I think. Dont shoot that often. I can tell you that at 20yds the Speer Gold Dot will demolish a Kevlar infantry helmant. A soldier I know just got home and to celebrate we did some ballistic testing on his helmant.
