If you are selling them and need a little shelf life that may to a little too late though, and it's a little by guess and by golly from there. You know they're ripe if when you put a finger on the stem leading to the fruit and push or tug gently. If the fruit seperates from the vine easily, it's ready. If the vine stays intact, let it go. You can also tell by the color, they'll turn yellowish, and the aroma will increase too, although it's tough for me to get my nose that close to the ground. I use the vine tug method.
