GWSmith
Let me pick the brains of all of you for a little bit here. Setting up my new sight last night I noticed something. At shorter distances I'm hitting dead on...but I noticed something that seemed strange. Only a few but some of my arrows were sticking into the target face at different angles. Starting to set my 30 yard pin I noticed what I'm calling "Corkscrewing" of the arrow in flight. The arrows are fletched with a (7) percent right offset. I have a feeling that if they were fletched "Straight" I would be seeing "Fishtailing". I have a feeling that a small arrow rest adjustment may be in order to the left or right but I wanted to ask and see if you all agree. Thanks in advance for your replys! MCH
Re: Arrow Flight Question If you're seeing it, it needs fixing... You've got three choices: you can paper tune or bare shaft tune or a combination of both. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to strip one arrow. Find one that has torn fletchings if possible... The shoot a two shot group from 15-20 yards with fletched arrows and then shoot your bare shaft. Try this site out for in depth instructions, GW.... Thanks in advance for your replys! I would agree with the above statement but I dont think it is a big adjustment either.

TreeWalker
Re: Arrow Flight Question Sounds like something I just went through with my Switchback........best I could get it papaer tuned was a 1" high left tear........but it grouped extremely well out to 50 yards..... At 20 yards, you could not see a problem........but when getting out to 40 and 50 yards, there was a horrible sideways kick (fishtailing) of the arrow in flight...... Turns out I was getting fletching contact......I changed arrow rests...or more like arrow rest prongs......I have the NAP Quicktune Drop for the roller guard versions.......I did away with the long prongs and rubber holder, and installed the shorter "v" shaped prongs that not only seem to drop quicker do to them being shorter, but the "v" shape also cradles the arrow well by themselves....... So to make a long story short, I was either getting contact on the prongs by them not dropping quick enough, or I was getting contact on the rubber holder that sticks to your arrow shelf.......I did away with both of them and re-paper tuned....I now get bullet holes through paper, and have perfect arrow flight all the way out to 50..... BTW...Since I'm blind as a bat...LOL...For me to see whats happening during arrow flight it probably is the result of having my arrows fletched with colors other than camo (they looked cool that way though...LOL) Oh yeah...and after last night at the range, realizing that I was having vision trouble by only seeing the faint outline of the ring around the (X) at 40 yards(and not being able to see the X at all), I have an appointment with the Optometrist as well now! buckee
Re: Arrow Flight Question You can check your centre shot by eye and get a pretty good idea if your rest needs moving.
GWSmith
Re: Arrow Flight Question Got the problem solved!!! First thing I did was check my draw weight and adjusted it up a few pounds to my comfortable hunting draw weight of 64lbs. Bare shaft tested and they were grouped together at 20yds and very slightly low and left at 30yds...still some of the arrows were at different angles. Very slight arrow rest adjustment to the left. I also went down to the low profile 3-D duravanes in 3" straight fletch from normal sized 4" vanes with 7percent offset. All arrows are now sticking in the target face the same direction at all distances. From begginning to end of arrow flight problem the fix time= 6 hours of shooting and adjusting everything...whew!!! Hey...better to have to go through this now instead of the night before the season opened
