Re: Ok! Who Is Going To Help Us Now???

I'm afraid that this is how things are:

Joe(America) owns a wrecker service. Anytime someone breaks down, they give Joe a call. No matter the problem, Joe has the tools and equipment to fix it.

One day, Joe breaks down on the side of the road. Even though he has everything he needs to fix the truck, the equipment is at his shop and will take a while to reach him.

Meanwhile, the people that Joe has helped through the years, pass by frequently without stopping. All thinking the same thing....

"Joe doesn't need our help. He knows what he's doing and he's got everything he needs to do it with."

The only way Joe will get some help now is if he jumps out in front of the cars waving his arms.....will we???

Re: Ok! Who Is Going To Help Us Now???

All I am saying, when there is some other world crisis, they all look to the USA and say, WELL? When are you going to give us billions of dollars to recover? That is what ticks me off!!! They dont even feel their nerve that we are now suffering! They just turn their heads! But when they need it, they snap them same heads around with waving hands asking for more money!!! Mean while my taxes keep going up so I can help another country! That is just not right!

mad.gif

Last night I seen a guy on the news, he was saying, "Where is all the help? I cant believe this is America! They dont care about us!" I got some news for this KNIT-WIT! You were told to leave!!! They had a mandatory evacuation! But you didnt leave! This same guy probably collects a welfare check every month!

You can bet your BUTT, if they said leave! Ill be leaving. Now it is America's fault that they stayed! UN-BELIEVIABLE!!! AND!!!!!! They looted all these gun shops now. They have many guns and ammo. They are shooting the same hand that is trying to help them!!! I say shoot back, take out everyone that is walking around the street with a gun! The medical supplies cant get in as well, because they are being shot at! To think these are the same people I used to call Americans! They are not Americans, they are animals! If they want to live like animals, then take them out!

Australia on Friday said it would donate A$10 million (US$7.7 million) immediately to the American Red Cross as well as sending a team of emergency management specialists to identify what other help could be offered and providing services where most needed.

Japan donated $200,000 to the Red Cross and would also provide up to $300,000 in aid supplies such as tents and power generators, The Associated Press quoted officials as saying.

The European Union said it was ready to offer any assistance in the wake of "what is perhaps the greatest civil emergency in U.S. history."

The International Energy Agency "has agreed to make 60 million barrels of product available" to help the United States weather the economic problems caused by Hurricane Katrina, a Bush administration official said Friday. (Full story)

NATO said help was available but it would need to know more about what could be needed.

Germany also said it would offer aid or money if requested by Washington, though officials said the U.S. was well equipped to deal with natural disasters.

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder sent a telegram to President George W. Bush saying he was "deeply shocked" by the news.

At the United Nations, the official spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan said the U.S. was the country best prepared in the world to deal with such a natural disaster.

"The American people, who have always been the most generous in responding to disasters in other parts of the world, have now themselves suffered a grievous blow," he said.

Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga said she and her fellow citizens felt solidarity with those affected.

"Having experienced the fury of nature ourselves during the December 26 tsunami, the people of Sri Lanka and I fully empathize with you at this hour of national grief," she said in a message to the U.S.

And while the small island nation is still recovering from the tsunami disaster, it also pledged $25,000 to the American Red Cross, the AP reported.

Which way are the heads turning?

Re: Ok! Who Is Going To Help Us Now???

More head turning, from Sean McCormack, State Dept spokesman in a press briefing yesterday.

http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/dpb/2005/52402.htm

I can run through a list, thus far. It's a list that's being constantly updated and growing really by the hour. We've received general offers of assistance, as well as some more specific offers of assistance from a number of different countries and organizations and includes: Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, the Organization of American States, Jamaica, NATO, Australia, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel and the United Arab Emirates. I'll try to keep you updated as best we can on those lists. Like I said, it's growing literally by the hour.

Let me give you a few examples of the types of things that have been offered: boats, aircraft, tents, blankets, generators, cash assistance, an offer of assistance from Venezuela through Citgo, which is a U.S. subsidiary of the Venezuelan Government National Oil Company.

While I agree that some people were just plain stubborn, stupid, etc. and did not leave and were able, there are many, many who were not able to leave, the elderly, the sick, the homeless, people without transportation or no way to get it. Thats why they opened the SuperDome, for people like that. Unfortunately, the ones who had a means of leaving are the ones who stuck around, because it's not the elderly or the sick looting all the stores.

Re: Ok! Who Is Going To Help Us Now???

Heard the same numbers Sluggo posted on the news last night, even the pseunami stricken sri lanka has offered some help. Several countries are offering to help.

Heard last night on the news that China and the Russia were also on the list of those offering support. Apparently Fidel Castro also offered to send 1100 physicians and some medical supplies, thinking the figure was $250,000 worth of supplies.

Think the figure was either 26 or 40 countries supposedly were going to or have opened their oil reserves to help counter the escalated oil prices here.

My best friend just came back from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He drives for Walgreens and made an emergency delivery of 3500 cases of water. He was told by the store manager that a woman came in and bought a bag of ice. On her way out of the store a man pulled up in a car, got out and shot her in the head and took her ice. Nuff Said.

Re: Ok! Who Is Going To Help Us Now???

Ok.... Let's look at the list as it is and then after all of the cleanup and death toll and rebuilding these people's homes, let's lookat who really helped and how much and then let's compare the list. It's easy to say you are going to help and that you'll do whatever you can, but doing is another thing.

Re: Ok! Who Is Going To Help Us Now???

Many of those listed countries pledged support in the way of labor and some in the way of financial backing.

Most labor pledges will be turned down because of the language barrier.

Can you just imagine all those countries trying to work together to rebuild.

Rebuilding would be as much chaos as the aftermath of the storm itself.

If the U.S. refuses help from any of these countries, you cannot hold that against the country involved.

At least they offered.

$200,000 here, $300,000 and $25,000 there - before you know it you have $600,000 toward disaster relief.
