Now, i'be been hunting for very many years. I never used to shoot doe's, i kinda changing that now. I know there is a way to tell the diff. between young and adult doe!

BUT...i forgot..please do tell

This will be good for young hunters too, rather gun or bow!

thanks

Older does, along with everything else that has been mentioned above, also have a longer profile face. Young does have a more pudgy look in their face, compared to mature does. Older does also show signs of greying in the face, unlike the younger ones.

Re: How to tell diff. between a young and adult doe

I have had troubles in the past judging single or lone does when I see them.

Even a yearling, under 1 year old but with no spots, can look like an ok doe by itself at a distance.

One key thing I have noticed on real young doe, again, with no spots, is that the face and head, particularly the snout, looks real short or stubby.

To me it has that "Bambi" innocent look to it.

Plus there body language is real curious and dosile and they seem not as jumpy as a older doe that has survived even one season of hunting pressure.

Obviously if they are grouoped together it is easier to judge, but by itself, these tips should help.

Doe that are 2 1/2 years and older; go by what JB had said.

Just my 2 cents...

Me and my dad called those fawns Snub Noses, haha. Dont know how it started, but thats what we call them now. I coulda shot 4 last weekend but couldnt get the mama to come close enough... Those fawns are a lot stupider, haha. They run around without a care in the world... they better wise up for next hunting season or THEY GONE!!!!

it thought it was something to do with the ring on behind there nose?

I would think that short to long on deer depends apon genetics and sometimes age. I've shot deer that were over year old and have stubby snouts.

There is something that if a person looks and see's a doe, that one particular thing that is very different to young'ns, beside body size, alertness, snout length, cause thats not always a given.

I can very easly tell a old doe by ears, body, color especially, lol.

There is one thing, you just look and you can tell without guessing?

Man, I hate to agree with buckee on this! LOL J/K But buckee is right. Older or mature does have a long snout. Younger or yearling does will have a short snout, kind of looks like they've been hit right in the end of the nose and it's been pushed back in. I judge them by the distance from the eye to the nose. If one doe comes out, it's hard to judge her by herself by looking at the body. A mature doe will measure about 8-10 inches from the eye to the nose. That's the best way I can judge older does from younger ones.
