MCH
If you live within 600 or so miles from devastation of Katrina, then more than likely, your hometown is playing host to hundreds of refugees. For instance, down here in Idabel, OK, population 5,000, we have discovered that there are several hundred families staying in local motels. Our bank recently placed a call to the local Comfort Suites and we found out that the employees of the motel are planning a potluck dinner for the families tonight. Our bank then offered to host one tomorrow night. So if you can, call around to local motels and see if they have any families staying there that are from the disaster area. If they're not doing something similar, suggest it. Kevin
Guest Andrea
Re: Idea for Helping Katrina Families... That's a great idea. Also....many churches can do this also. If you find evacuees in your hometown...see if your church has planned something like this.
Orion_70
Re: Idea for Helping Katrina Families... A lot of people are up in my hometown in North La., here's what came out from my alma mater today: Louisiana Tech will be making space available for as many as possible of those displaced. Caruthers dormitory, shut down permanently several months ago, is being assessed and will be made available very soon for housing. Additionally, the concourse of the Thomas Assembly Center is being readied for about a hundred and fifty who can be temporarily housed there. The University is cooperating with government agencies by making available over 100 acres of land currently used for agricultural projects; this land may be used for mass housing provided by the government in the near future. All the local churches and businesses are providing food for many.. I wish I was back there now, that's just the kind of people that live there..
