fisherguy
Ok here is my question...Canada gets 92% of our oil and gas from within the country and only imports 8%. WHy then did it just cost me $106 to fill up my new truck?! The price jumped over night because of a hurricane that while tragic and destructive came nowhere close the places where we get that 92% of our oil frrom! All i know is it is gettign really scarry, and all it can do is get worse if the price does not turn around!!

Rhino
Re: Gas question That's actually a pretty easy question to answer. The Canadian government hits you guys real hard in the pocket book with the taxes they have on gasoline up there. You just don't know it because just like the United States the taxes are already figured into the price at the pump. Also just so you'll know, about 17% of the oil imported into the United States comes from Canada. Hope that doesn't burn you too much around the collar that your importing some percentage and still exporting some to us too.
redbeard
Re: Gas question Nevertheless, the instant increase at the pumps is nothing more that complete and total legalized piracy. The fact remains that the refined oil in the tanks has been already purchased by the middle men for transport and delivery to the stations we buy from was done at the lessor prices of previous buys. It is the delivery companies that dictate the price to the stations and the stations to us. Once the price per barrel goes up, the cost to replish supplies goes up giving the transport companies seemingly justified reasons to jack the price up. To compensate the individual gas stations must raise the price at the pump. Who's profitting the most ( other than the owners of the oil in the ground )? I'd bet it's the transporters, the middle men.

And yes it make absolutely no sense we import even 8% of our supply since we export about ten times that much.

Rhino
Re: Gas question Hummmm......just did the numbers but looks like there is between a 400% and 420% markup between the price of crude oil sold at the wellhead and the price of gasoline at the pump.
