ladydiehard
I haven't bow hunted in over 20 years...just got a new bow a week and a half ago...it had been on back order or I would have had it sooner...so I felt pressured to practice like crazy cause opening day is Sept. 17th. Thats the scenario that lead to the shoulder pain I am now dealing with. The pain started two days ago and has reached an intolerable level in regards to shooting. Anyone have any advise, besides giving it a rest, for some relief? I need to get back to shooting soon. I have one pin that needs to be sighted in yet and time is ticking. But I also know that I can probably get by without this pin. I don't want to fool around and totally mess up my hunting. What think ye? hutchies
Re: SHOULDER PAIN!!!!! How many arrows a day have you been shooting? If you are not shooting alot then you need to lower your poundage. With todays bows you don't have to be shooting Max. draw weight to kill any animal. About 24 a day. My draw weight is only at 38. Granted, I started off being out of shape and out of practice so I'm hoping this will heal up with some rest. booner1331
Re: SHOULDER PAIN!!!!! Start slowly and work your way up, need to get your body conditioned to pull back your bow numerious days daily. Shooting a dozen arrows a everyday is better than shooting 100 one day per week. I only shoot 10-15 arrows but do it most every day

Might take a few more weeks.
hutchies
Re: SHOULDER PAIN!!!!! Do not and I repeat do not over do it. There is no sense in hurting yourself to get up to 40 lbs. Take a few days off and come back to it.
too_pointer
Re: SHOULDER PAIN!!!!! At #38 lbs, you shouldn't need very many pins. I would pick 1 pin that would cover the distances you are capable of shooting. too_

I was grouping extremely well consistently at 10 yards and had just moved out to 20 when the pain started. 30 is my max and not my preference. I will feel better if I can at least get the 20 yard pin sighted in before season.

ladydiehard
Re: SHOULDER PAIN!!!!! [ QUOTE ] This may sound stupid but make sure you strech before and more importantly strech after you shoot as well. Also stop shooting before your shoulder gets tired is a big thing to. Especially when you start shooting higher draw weights. [/ QUOTE ] Doesn't sound stupid at all. I browsed some other websites about this and they recommend specific exercises for the muscles used when shooting a bow. I jumped the gun and just over did it. maddhunter
Re: SHOULDER PAIN!!!!! I know when I started with my new bow this year, I had went up 10 pounds, my shoulder was hurting and I noticed that I was raising my elbow when I drew. I started keeping it tucked down and the pain eventually went away. This was joint pain. Muscle pain will decrease as you get used to pulling a bow again. Guest Justwin24
Re: SHOULDER PAIN!!!!! When I had lasic to my eye the Dr told me to double up on my vitamins. In the orginal testing they found patients that took vitamins healed much more quickly. I think he said 3 times faster but don't hold me to it. So besides the regular stuff to try and make the pain bearable double up on vitamins may help it heal faster.

I still have considerable pain after a few shots but it is some better. I didn't overdo it. Just took a few shots and until the pain started really bothering, I was grouping in the kill zone. I'm gonna rest it again for several days as opening day is way too close to risk serious injury. I feel confident that I'm shooting well enough to hunt so long as my shoulder isn't screaming.
