Guest Squirrelbuster
Well, I went squirrel hunting this morning and was pretty disappointed. I did not see a thing as far as squirrels go. It got so bad I was almost tempted to shoot a chipmunk but I didn't feel like cleaning my gun just for a chipmunk. The sad part is, I went to a place that is probably my 2nd or 3rd best place to go, but the place was devoid of squirrels today. There were hickory nuts everywhere, but no sign of the squirrels even eating them. Although my brother did see a gray but couldn't catch up to it. He also saw two reds and shot one of them. But the day wasn't totally bad. For one atleast the season is finally open and also I saw a doe and I saw my first buck in velvet. A fork horn with about 8 inch main beams. Well, I have my #1 place to look forward to on this weekend's camping trip so hopefully the action will pick up.
Turkeygirl
Re: Opening day results Same here squirrelbuster! I went out about 4pm. I walked and sat in a few of my really good spots and only heard one gray squirrel call and that was it! I think maybe it was too warm; I usually have better luck in the mornings. I also saw a couple deer and the hickory and acorn nuts were abundant. The Beech nuts don't seem to have a great crop this year as far as I can tell.
