Let's hear what is the longest shot you made with your smoke pole. What grain of powder and bullet. The longest shot i made was with a TC hawken's 50cal last year on a 7pt running up a hillside and took him in the back of the head using a 245gr TC sabot and 95gr of powder at 125yrd's.Trust me when i say i could not believe i did that. Can't wait for the season.Bow season will get me in early and ML season will get'r done.LOVE ML's smile.gif.

My Longest Shot: 90 Yards. My Muzzle Loader is a T/C Black Diamond in .50 caliber. My load: 90 grains (Volume) of "777" FG behind a Hornady .452" XTP 250 grain bullet, in a High Pressure Sabot, all fired by a 209 shotgun primer. Got Two Deer Last Season with this combo.

Re: what\'s the longest shot made with your ML\'s

My Savage Smokeless will reach out to 200 yd. easily, but I have not had the occasion yet to shoot at a deer at that range, with this rifle.

I have taken two deer at 173 yd. with my Remington 700ML, using 2 pyrodex pellets and a 240 grain XTP.

The only way I was able to do this however, was because I missed the first shot and saw the dirt fly. I aimed the second shot just 4 inches above the deer, or approx. 16" above the target area and hit the heart.

The second deer showed at the exact same location a few weeks later, and I knew exactly where to aim and hit the mark the first shot.

A doe at 220 plus with TC Firehawk, 300grain Hornady pushed by 90grains of Prydex rifle powder. Foot of snow and a 200 year oak for a rest. I went on the North ridge and they came up the South so I just put it about 6in high and squeezed one off. Forty mins. later and a lot of huffing and puffing I found a dead deer. Then the 5 hour drag began! Heck I don't even like to shoot more than 25yds. with my bow, but I feel like I my smoke pole is an extension of my arm! grin.gif

I'd be very interested in how many of you taking 125 yd plus shots are using scopes and how many are open sights. It may be a factor of my old eyes, but I'd be hard pressed to shoot much over 100 yards with my open sights. When the front post starts covering most of your target I opt to have the target get closer.

Re: what\'s the longest shot made with your ML\'s

I should have mentioned i shoot with open sights because can't use scopes not steady with them.TC sights is what i use and got some pointers from a man and wife team. They at one time shot comp and showed me a real neat trick on taking long distance shot's,i improved my accurcey by 50%.They said try drawing to your shot from either side to side or up to down or down to up,but the key is not to hold on the target but to squeaze your trigger as you come to it.You would have to listen to them to understand. The mental notes i had i took to the range where i practiced for some time and become very good with open sight's,I just found my comfort zone.Let's say what that team taught me has got me able to shoot a tagerine at 150yrd's with 90grn's of powder and a 245 grain TC sabot.I know it sounds like something you probley allready know and i thought the same thing, but they showed me diffirent and in a quick hurry, but i listen'd and now the proof is on the wall. Also these folk's have several first place standing's and one long distance shot record with round ball, and still holding.these folk's are well into their late 70's so i was very fortunate to learn from them.Anybody can shoot long distance, just find that comfort zone.God be with you.

Re: what\'s the longest shot made with your ML\'s

Using my uncle's Encore I took a 7 point at around 65 yards, maybe a little more, I didn't walk it off. I can't remember what I was shooting in it. In this part of Michigan you almost never see deer at distances longer than 100 yards.

I haven't taken my new Omega in the field yet, I just got it this summer, but I drilled a few shots at 50 yards behind the house, I hope to be able to reach out to at least 75 yards with it this coming season. Oh and I have a Nikon Prostaff scope on my Omega, I forget what my uncle has on his Encore. I'm shooting 100 grains of Triple 7 with T/C Shockwaves

I hunted with All American Outfitters in New Mexico, Brandon Gaudelli had us sight in at 200 yards. I was using my 209 CVA, 150 gr. pyrodex, and 300 gr. Barnes X-press with a 3x9-50 Simmons. I was dead on at 200 yards and 8" low at 300 yards.

I got this guy at 142 yards!

Re: what\'s the longest shot made with your ML\'s

Even though I've hunted exclusively with the Encore and

Savage for the past 5 years, the longest shot I've ever

taken was with the .54 Lyman Trade Rifle, at around 250

yards. I could tell from tracking that she made a lung

shot, and tracked 'til dark. Next morning I went out to

where I quit tracking the night before, and she had gone

another 400yds, making a trail close to 3/4 mile from

where she had been hit. Unfortunately, I only found

her death bed, as she had died just inside a fence line

beside a road and someone got to her before I did.

The load was a 405gr minnie over 110gr Pyrodex.

I now routinely practice at 150yds with the inlines, but

the longest shot with either has been 90 yards......on

the other hand, nothing has gone beyond 30 or 40

yards, and most have just dropped.

Re: what\'s the longest shot made with your ML\'s

Im not really into long range shooting.I prefer to get as close as possible and more then 90% of my deer arekilled at 30 yrds or under, the rest are under 50.

But I did screw around last year and found out while sighting in that I got pretty decent groups with my Knight out to about 150 yrds. This came in handy last year.I made a bad shot on a doe during a small 2 man deer drive. She was coming up out of a low spot when I pulled the trigger and the result was the bullet hitting about 4 inches low in her front leg.I watched her lay down and she was pumping blood pretty good so we left her for about 6 hours. We drove out to where she was laying and walked the last 100 yrds just in case. She wasnt dead and when she jumped up my buddy missed her.I had a malfunction with a wet cap and when i got it changed she was out about 120 yrds standing broadside.Really never though Id hit her but it was a huge section and we only had access to part of it so I put the crosshairs on her and touched it off.Suprised me when she dropped in her tracks. Its my longest shot and I hope I never have to take another one frown.gif
