I just purchased a new hunters view silver condor lite, it came with a strap to put on around the tree, this strap is not part of the safety harness and it goes right under the top cable and fastens to the stand. I have used climbers before and never had to put an extra nylon strap around the tree. What is the purpose of this, and do I need it? By the way this climber is no diffrent than any other and dont see what this strap would do

no it is not the strap the hold the seat back to the tree it has one of them also.

just looking at a pic of the stand online. If it is like the Summit, the strap is made to be secured around the seat part of the stand, where the teeth bite into the tree. This is so it doesn't un-weight from the tree as you stand up and sit down.

If you were to stand up, and the back of your legs catch the stand and lift it a bit, you could be in for a surprise when you sit down, and the seat slides down. This just happened to my brother 2 weeks ago with his summit. He doesn't use the strap that came with his.
