KirkV
I saw 2 of the biggest deer tonight on stand but did not have a good shot at either. I saw one that probably matched my 20" spread muzzleloader buck from last year but he was 70 yards from my stand in some brush. I tried grunting softly to him but he showed no responce. When I did a snort wheeze he hit the road like his tail was on fire. This lead me to belive he had his tail kicked by a bigger buck at some point and time. I settled back in the stand and just about dark I noticed a dark figure that had almost slipped by me in the thick brush, it had a monster rack that appeared to look more like a muley than a whitetail. I grunted once at it and it stopped and turned 90 degrees and started coming. The only problem was it was coming in behind me and was going to cross behind me which has a ton of small brached trees with no shooting lane in it. When he was behind me at 30 yards I made my mouth grunt to stop him in what appeared to be the only opening and he stopped on a dime. I could not see if my shot was clear or not as he stood there looking around and I did it! Thats right I did the right thing and passed the shot up. He slowly walked away as if nothing had happened. Tommorrow I am moving my stand 50 yards to the west to intercept the trail that these deer are using. Hopefully the snort wheeze buck is not too freeked out and will return. When I got out of the tomber i met my buddy who was waiting and he said he stuck a mountable buck 45 minutes earlier. He said he hit him at 20 yards and the buck jumped and kicked and ran over the hill in front of him 40 yards away. He waited 1/2 hr and went up to try to find him. He is colorblind by the way and cannot see red. So I do his blood trails which is why we hunt together. He said when he topped the hill he was looking around when he saw his buck get up 40 yards away and slowely walk off with it's taill down and he backed out. I convinced him tah twe should leave the deer overnight and not push it any farther as it seems from everthing he told me that the deer is mortally hit. We will go in the morning and see what we can find. If we find him I will post up some pics in the afternoon before I go out to try to find and stick one of my giants. What a night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
