Nikon Rangefinder *Update*

Nikon sent my rangefinder back today.

I don't know what they did to determine that it was broke, because to be quite honest with you, it doesn't even look like they looked at it. The tape that I put on the rangefinder itself is in the exact same spot, exact same tape as when I shipped it. confused.gifmad.gif

I don't know for sure obviously, but it sure doesn't look like they looked at it.

Went out on the deck and tried ranging something, and got the same results. Longest range I could get was 44 yards. frown.gif

Not happy. Thought I'd share my experience to let anyone else in the market for a rangefinder to think long and hard before buying a Nikon.

Re: Nikon Rangefinder *Update*

mine went poop... only works if you hit the button like 5 times, something works right away and others not at all. cant really send it back because i dont have the receipt, lost it. next year im getting a bushnell. i do have a nikon prostaff scope that i love but the rangefinders just dont hold up imo.

Re: Nikon Rangefinder *Update*

Well guys, lasers do not last forever. I know, I worked with them for 5 years. The product did last through its warranty period if I remember correctly. If your car broke down after the warranty period was expired, you expect the dealership to fix it for free? Not hardly. Even the top of the line Leica laser range finder does not have a long warranty. The optics have a lifetime warranty but the electronics are only warrantied for 5 years. The same for the $2000 Geovid.

Granted most things are expected to last longer than the warranty. You got a bad one.

OK, granted, but if my 3 year old truck with a blue book value of around $16,000 breaks down, it better not cost $14,150.40 to fix, and actually, in 3 years it will still be under warranty.

I know you were just using an analogy, but seems to me that laser should have lasted longer than 3 years, and the repair at 88% of its original cost seems exhorbitant.

rangefinder

Can you give the particulars on your Rangfinder? How old are they, model #?

Not that it makes any difference I have 2 pair of Nikon Rangefinders that I bought 4 and 6 years ago respectively. 1 I use for dog training, a lot. The second pair for hunting. I also have a lot fo buddies who use Nikon Rangfinders and not one has ever had a problem. Not that that helps you with your issue, just stating a fact.

Thanks,

Bart

Dang, no kidding.

Way to freshen up an old wound, lol.

I won't buy another Nikon rangefinder until they make good on the original.

I bought a Bushnell shortly after the Nikon broke, and it's been fine for what, almost 6 years now.
