Ethnicity Question

Reading the Mexican Army Invades US post brought up a question.

Other than our friend from Bolivia, I haven't noticed anyone identify themselves as black, Latino, Asian, etc. What's up with that? I know there are 1000's of deer hunters in Texas that are Mexican-American. Where the heck are they? Why haven't we seen any on this forum?

Well, if it only said army invades the U.S., wouldn't everyone want to know who's army it was ...LOL

What's up with what ? confused.gif

We might have a whole bunch of different ethnic backgrounds in this room. smile.gif

I haven't heard you identify yourself as white yet, so why would it be a requirement for anyone else to identify their ethnic background unless of course they chose to.

I've made a lot of good friends in this forum, and not once have I ever worried or cared about what colour they are.

Yep, I'm confused again.

Re: Ethnicity Question

Y'all are taking it entirely wrong. I don't give a hoot what ethnicity anyone IS, I'm just curious as to why, out of the hundreds of members on this forum, not A SINGLE ONE (that I've seen) has ever given any indication that they were anything other than white. You would think, especially in the Politics Forum, that someone would eventually say something like "I'm a black man and Jesse Jackson dang sure doesn't speak for me". Coming from Texas, where there's a large Hispanic and black population, many of whom are hunters, I just can't belive we don't have a more diverse representation here. Maybe it's different in other parts of the country. Maybe 100% of the hunters are white and that's what's confusing me???

FYI - My father's family came from Russia in the early 1800's and my mother's family was Black Dutch. Plus I've got 2 lines of American Indian blood on my mother's side and 1 from my father's.

Re: Ethnicity Question

Ethinicity has never been a real question for me or a problem. I guess because dealing with the "public" for over 30 years in banking and credit I deal with names and numbers! I think it OK that people do not indicate their ethnic background OR GENDER on these forums. I've seen some forums become very accusatory and ruin the forum!

What is surprising to me on a vast majority of forums, are those that do not identify their location as to city and state. To me, that demonstrates lack of pride in their city and state.

Despite the world's conception... I'm proud to be from Waco and proud to be a Texan, and more proud to be an American!

Re: Ethnicity Question

Ethnicity has never really been a problem for me either unless set yourself up to be one. Hunters are hunters no matter the color of your skin. Just so happens that most hunters are white. A good friend of mine while I was stationed at Cherry Point was asian and mexican. Jesus Fung was his name grin.gif

We teased each other all the time but we were pretty good hunting buddies. I actually miss tracking all of his gut shot deer smirk.gif

Oh and in since you ask, I am white and proud. I am originally from PA and thank God I am an American wink.gif...though Canada wouldn't be too bad either if I wasn't an American grin.gif

Re: Ethnicity Question

We have some members of this forum who are black. Think there have been some posts over the past that might even have offended some of the members here. I can see what you are saying Texan, but am not sure how to answer. Maybe the black and mexican hunters like you refer to are not as inclined to get into race issues as some other people from the same race who have different types of ideals and values. Generally speaking the hunting community are people with similar types of values, would think that would go across any ethnic backgrounds. Maybe not speaking out for or against those like Jackson is just to avoid drawing any attention to themsevles. Really honestly dont know.

Re: Ethnicity Question

I think oldksnarc said it all. If we were born in America, then we are Americans. If we were born somewhere else and migrated here then, for example, we are Irish-American or Mexican-American. It is safe to say that most of us have a diverse ethnic background and should be proud that we all have the privalege to hunt and enjoy the outdoors with one another. I myself and part Cherokee, a bit Chocktaw, and the rest is Irish. But my pride prompts me to represent myself as a Texan. We should all be proud of who we are and respect each other's pride of who they are. Lets talk about hunting.

Re: Ethnicity Question

Mixed thoughts Texan. Me personnaly, I thought nothing of your thread and I believe I answered your question. These are real issues. I think the question others have is "Why ask or worry about that stuff here at a hunting web site". Well my answer would be that these forums have all kinds of rooms. If someone was bothered by this thread and was more worried about hunting, then don't visit in here, go to the hunting rooms. There are plenty of them here. Your post is fine Texan.

Also another thing is alot of members just follow suit. I mean I know we have disagreements in here and other rooms but do you know that USUALLY it just revolves around one or two people. I call it the ripple effect. If everyone would of just posted and answered your question, then only maybe one would of questioned your post. However, in this case, the ripple effect started with "Why you are worried about this" or "Why are you asking this" then everybody just followed suit. You see where I am getting at here. Alot of people can't speak for themselves. I guess you could say that they agree just so they can feel like they fit in. Like I said, IMO this is pretty much a non-hunting related room so therefore, your post was in regulation and it was fine. If you ever need me to answer one of your posts, just ask grin.gif

If that is the case, I guess I am the first one to question the motives for asking such a question.

I got one thing to say...."People...if you are following me, you had better get yourself another leader, because half the time I don't know where I'm going."
