Adjam5
Has anyone used the Hunter saftey system harness' yet? I am think about getting the Tree stalker model out of Cabelas for 69 bucks. I wonder if its worth it? The harness that came with my Summit is a pain in the butt to untangle it and put it on. Any info on this harness is appreciated.
joebobhunter4
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system take your summit harnesss and take the thing from around the tree and folow that long line all the way to where the circle is that goes around your waist and keep that and cut the rest off with a knife... thats what i did i took the tree circle cut it so there was bout 5 feet of line imbetween and another circle that went around my waist... it saves a lot of money and give or take it will hurt a lil more if u fall but as long as your tree stand isnt like 30 feet up it should work just fine because u could either swing back to your ladder or take it off and fall the rest of the way to the ground with your feet instead of your head... hope this helps... billygoat
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system Just got the hunter safety system and I love it. 3 clips and your ready to go. I also picked up a caribander to lock to my climbing line so I am always attached to the tree. Trust me, it's well worth the 69 dollars for the fall restraint system! dogdoc
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system Before you purchase the Hunter Safety System you might want to check out this review. I was going to purchase one then after watching this review I chose the SOP model. Be sure to watch the video of the guy falling of the stand with both models. It might change your mind on the HSS. AaronS
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system Very nice review Todd. It is nice getting real world experiences. I have an old SOP. I bought it about 8 years ago, back before Summit bought them. It is the "jumble of straps" model that the vest model companies try to make everyone believe it takes a brain surgeon to use. It's not bad at all once you get the hang of it. You just need to store the harness back in the attached fanny pack the same way each time, and it will come back out and go on easily. I can have mine on in seconds.
hutchies
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system Oh man that guys comment on why he did not continue was too funny. He was afraid of injuring something. I have a jumble of straps but it is not that bad. I used to wear a linemans harness everyday when I drove forklift at B-line systems. It's not that bad just takes a minute to get it on.
HarvDog
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system I have a full body harness from Gorilla (I think).
LifeNRA
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system I also have the HSS vest. But I have 4 clips to attach, and the belts are much wider on the chest than the SOP. I did hang from a tree to see what the feeling would be like. Although, I never had the pain he was describing. Yes, there was pressure in the groin area. But it was not that bad. The rope he had hanging from the tree. Is that apart of somekind of restraint system, or is that a way to recover from a fall and get down?
Mirage
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system I just bought one this year and so far so good. I think the trick is to have the vest adjsuted to your body correctly. Larger hunters may be in trouble but i weigh 180 pounds and 6 foot tall. I have had no trouble

[/ QUOTE ] From what I read on the site, he put it there as a way to recover from the fall and get down. Great idea. One of those "Why didn't I think of that?" moments. billygoat
Re: Harness\'...Hunter Saftey system Sounds like a pretty good review Todd. I think Jim Barta makes a good comment, though, when he says, any fall from a tree isn't a pleasant experience. I promise you, if you take a dive from a tree, your going to have pain, it might be groin pain, it might be leg pain, it might be shoulder pain. I love summits fall systems, and I have there SOP harness (not the vest system). My only quam with it was it was a bit difficult to get put on... that's it, nothing else. The HHS vest literally goes on in 30 seconds, and that's what I love. It has strong buckles and once adjusted, fits very well, the straps are wide and sturdy, and it stores without a whole lot of difficulty. I don't know what the SOP vest runs, my guess would be around $120, for $50 less I was able to buy the HSS, if I take a header, I might walk with a gimp for a day or two, but least wise I'll be walking. Like Barta said, if it gets people to wear safety systems, then I am all for it!
