ZooBear
Re: Blueberry picker killed... 26 years old with 2 kids and still lives with his mother? Sounds like a real winner! How could you just leave someone dying in the woods? I think his brothers should be charged as well.

whitetailtrax
Re: Blueberry picker killed... What a sad story. There's a lesson to take home though - BLAZE ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are going to recreate in the woods this time of year, you have to wear blaze orange and lots of it. Head-to-toe for the kids. There are just too many idiots out there that will shoot at anything that moves.

Orion_70
Re: Blueberry picker killed... "Police found a Winchester .30-30 casing believed to be from Gilbert's weapon about 21 yards from where Bartlett's body was discovered, according to court documents. Gartenstein said Tuesday that Gilbert was 60 to 70 feet away from Bartlett, in daylight, when he fired. " How can you mistake a person for a bear at that distance? What an idiot.. This is sad, very sad and what's worse is there are more people like that who don't identify their target and just take "brush shots" at something moving, Those idiots really scare me!! Smitteken
Re: Blueberry picker killed... Even if it is justified as an accident, the cold heartedness came after the shot. By leaving him for dead its the same as murder to me. This is the kind of trash I don't want in my woods. -aaron

LifeNRA
Re: Blueberry picker killed... Very sad indeed! But if it was bear season why dont these people at least wear a Flo. orange hat! I least try to be seen! The law states here in PA while hunting BIG game you must have so many inches of Flo. orange on your head back and chest! But non hunters are not required to wear this! Kind of stupid I think, make hunters wear it but not the non hunters???
SaskMan
Re: Blueberry picker killed... Unbelievable............................... TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Blueberry picker killed... I don't see how you could mistake anything from no matter how far it is. That's no accident, that is neglect and he needs to be held accountable in more ways than one.

VermontHunter
Re: Blueberry picker killed... Let me just add a few things to this if I may..... As for his 2 brothers they are also being charged,,,with the maximum allowed by the law just for leaving the scene and not responding on getting immediate help.... As for the idiot that did the actual shooting VT is trying to ammend the charge from 2nd. degree murder to 1st. degree murder....which I think is a more fitting charge.... As for the blaze orange,,,,,let's take a look at this realisticly,,,,The shooter was 21yrds. or less when he pulled the trigger,,,do you really think it would have made a difference in this instance ??? I don't !! The real problem here is shooting at something when you have NO clue as to what you are shooting at........If you take the little extra time to examine your target and identify it,,,,,to me the blaze orange is MUTE,,,,,,,,Not that Im saying Im against blaze orange every little extra saftey feature that can be applied the better in my book,,,, But in this instance it wouldn't have made a difference in my view.....21yrds is almost handshaking distance folks... billygoat
Re: Blueberry picker killed... Unbelievable, and Luke nailed it on the head, unexcusable! Accidents happen, and they happen at 21 yards (but sometimes an accident can also be neglect; such is the case here... if it was an accident). to shoot at "something" without knowing EXACTLY what it is, is unexcusable... then to leave the scene... unforgivable! archerjg
Re: Blueberry picker killed... There is no excuse for his actions. He was close enough to the person to see that it was not a bear. If he could not see what he was shooting at why did he fire? Very tragic for all involved. Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims family. Archerjg
Norm Sauceman
Re: Blueberry picker killed... He was NOT hunting at all. Sounds like he was just out to shoot something if you ask me. IowaDeerHunter
Re: Blueberry picker killed... That is a sad horrible story. How do you mistake a person for a bear AT 21 YARDS! Even if the guy was behind some bushes he had to at least see something to know he was shooting it in the right spot. But of course this moron probably just shot at the first thing he saw moving. Then to just leave the guy there to die is unbelievable. Give him life in prison!
