billygoat
Well, drop thingee said she doesn't want to sit in the woods... says she would rather sit on the field edge so anyways, now I have to figure out whether I want to put a tripod stand up, or make an elevated box stand . WHY CANT SHE JUST HUNT THE WOODS! ahh well, anyone have decent plans for an elevated box stand?
wtnhunt
Re: Box Stand designs? Posted some pics earlier in the week. If you can weld and have a welder, making a platform for a elevated blind is not too tough. I kind of drew out on paper what I wanted, ordered my steal, and built what I wanted. blind post

dogdoc
Re: Box Stand designs? Horst recommended adding elbows to all corners which I did and it really stabilized the entire stand.

Stinger-Hunter
Re: Box Stand designs? Awesome. Great stand. One question. How did you get the 4x4's to be the exact same height? Digging and measuring? I tried that once without the digging and it was a bit lopsided so I gave up on it.

I tried that once without the digging and it was a bit lopsided so I gave up on it. [/ QUOTE ] I dug a 2 ft hole--then lightly nailed a 2X4 about 1 foot up from the bottom from pole to pole--used a level to get all 4 poles squared. I then cemented in the poles. The next day I took off the 2X4 on the bottom---now all poles are squared but you are right they are not all the same height. I then used a 2X4 at the top of the poles. I used a level and screwed a 2X4 from the top (flush with) of the shortest pole over to the other pole--once the 2X4 is level (completely sraight) I screwed it on the other pole and then sawed off the excess (top) of the 4X4--did this to all 4 poles --so I had to cut off the top of 3 of the 4X4's to make them all level at top. Hope that makes sense.

Adjam5
Re: Box Stand designs? I rebuilt a machine crate in the middle of a field. A spinning bar stool works great I stained it last week and today I camo'ed it. I used leaves off of a nearby tree to get my pattern with the spraypaint. Before and after... johnf
Re: Box Stand designs? If I were going to build a trypod stand, I would start out with something like this buddy stand then build two other legs for it to go out on the back corners of the stand. I would then tie them together with some 1/2" or 3/4" square tubing from about 1' under the platform to about 1' from the ground. Make sure that all of the legs are the same length so the platform is in the center of the tripod and doesn't throw off the center of gravity too much. Adjam5
Re: Box Stand designs? Thats different. You pack some food and water and stay up there til the season ends. Heck, scent won't be a issue and the poo poo has to pile up quite high before it becomes a problem
