Crow Hunting w/ my foxpro... Story & Pics

Recommended Posts

On Saturday alone, we wiped out 5 crows out of the flock with the Dying Crow sound.

Generally, I try to work the sounds in a sequence depending on the time of day and the conditions.

I usually start with the Crow gathering, work it into a crow/hawk fight and then start up on the Dying Crow. But Saturday morning, they weren't very responsive to the Gathering. They might still have been shooken up from the previous weekend when we shot 3.

So I switched up right to the Dying Crow and I looked to my left and saw a crow coming in. I lost it for a second in the tree line, but soon it was in front of me and getting closer. I was so glad that a few days before we went hunting, my dad picked p some decoys at Gander Mountain. The visual of the decoys was big in the hunt.

Anyway, in this crow is coming, as soon as it is just about in front of me, I lead the gun on him a little bit and let er rip... Down she goes! I then hear a loud thud on the ground...

As I shot, my dad had a bird in his sights and shot that one too.

After we both recovered our birds, we unfortunately couldn't find my dad's bird. It fell in the high grass again. Next we called them in again with the Crow Gathering on the Foxpro and they came in again. Boom, down 3 more crows went, two being found out of the two of them and another being hit a bunch of times. My dad shot once, missed, I followed up hit it and it began to fly, but with a struggle and my dad shot one more time and down that bird went. Didn't find that one either.

That was all that would happen the rest of that day and today. Today, they were a bit smarter and much more call shy. We have taken out 8 crows within the past 2 weeks. BIG DENT in the local population.

Today we made one stand in the morning and we had the crows come in to about 150 yards away in the tops of trees. It seemed like they wanted the crows ( decoys ) to come to them. I think I might need to switch up the sounds on my caller and throw in the Crow Frenzy or something in there.

We left the camera in the warm cabin and when we took it outside into the 40* weather outside, the change in temperature caused the dang lense to fog.
