CDubWSR
well today i went and got my bow paper tune and had to go down to a 85 grain tip to stiffen the arrow up a bit. my question is, do any of you guys shoot 85 grain fixed blade broadheads and if so which ones do you recomend. The three they had at the shop were g5 montecs, nap thunderheads, and crimson talons. right now i am leaning towards thunderheads but i am kinda worried they arent gonna shoot on with my field points as well as the montecs. on the other hand the montecs are more expensive for half the number of heads and you have to hand resharpen them. im not really sure what to do so any input is greatly appreciated. PAbowhunter4life
Re: 85 grain broadhead? Shoot an 85 grain Slick Trick, you won't find a better flying or tougher broadhead on the market, GUARANTEED. Slick Tricks hit right with my field points out to 40 yards, are TOUGH, and offer 4 razor sharp blades with a 2 way 1" cut which adds up to over 2" of cutting surface. So, they fly and do damage like a mechanical head, with the dependability of a fixed. If you are interested in them, send me a PM and I can give you the info for a guy that will get you a good deal. mainebuck
Re: 85 grain broadhead? what was happening with the paper tuning to indicate you needed the lighter head? I'm curious. Of the heads you mentioned I'd go with the G5. They seem to fly better. Thunderheads are a tried and true head. I've heard good and bad about the Talons. CDubWSR
Re: 85 grain broadhead? mainebuck-my arrows were apparently just slightly underspined which was causing the very slight tear that we could not get to go away. if you lower the weight of the tip it will make your shaft stiffer, and if you increase the weight it will make your shaft softer. we also dropped the draw weight about 2 pounds.
