Guest TheNumber1Young1
Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? well actually whitetailkiller is kinda right to an extent, its like this, would you rather go meet a girl if your a scrawny fella?or would you rather go meet a girl if you got some muscles, and look big?Its the same with deer, so they "swell" up to impress the does.....just my point of view, i might not even be right, but it sounds right. CDubWSR
Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? i think it is due to the increase of testosterone in their bodies. a combination betweent that and rubbing and fighting. thats my guess. ParsonsOutdoors
Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? Whitetails necks swell up from the constant rubbing of trees during the fall. It's the same as if you did bicep curls like crazy for a few months. You'd see alot of gain in muscle size, but after you quit for awhile, you'd lose most of the muscle mass. JP
johnf
Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? I've seen deer breed, and they don't use their necks.
AJ
Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? JPs got it. A buck does rubs to build up its neck muscles for fighting other males for the right to breed. Take a shed and try to make a rub like a buck does. Its not easy. They do get a workout. Tom2008
Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? Yeah that makes a lot of sense its not like the antlers are really sharp or anything like that to help cut up the trees so they gotta be pushin pretty hard to rub the bark off. Shutter
Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? Neck size has more to do with the chemical/hormonal change rather than "muscle mass" build up due to rubbing. Here is the same buck, one where he is pumped up on hormone during the rut, and one where he is not.. BIG difference huh
Ravin R10 man
Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? well.you know I could come up with a great reaply here....since Im not in deer camp... I'll be good..... but my understanding is it's the Testosterone and the sparring and rubbing that developes the muscles to make them swell... I think the begger neck picture is just later in the year, ie. he has rubbed more. I've cut out way too many neck roasts to believe that the swelling is harmonal.
