I May Have Lyme Disease!!!!!!!

About a week ago I found a seed tick that had aluded me for about 2 days. The next day it started itching and turning red around the area where the tick was. Then a couple of days later it started to swell a little, getting more red.

Yesterday I got up and had a little more pain than usual in my joints and muscles. I just thought it was from mowing on the tractor all day saturday. But when I got up this morning I couldn't hardly walk, so I got on the internet and looked up LIME DISEASE and it causes severe joint and muscle pain. So I called in to work and am going to the doctor this morning instead of friday, like I had planned.

Man I hate burning vacation for being sick mad.gifmad.gif

Only have 2 weeks left for deer season.

Re: I May Have Lime Disease!!!!!!!

Hopefully you don't have lymes but I believe that early detection and treatment is the key to successfully treating the condition, and that's exactly what you are doing. You are doing the smart thing by getting checked out by the doctor right away, most people might tend to convince themselves that the symptons will go away and wait to long to get treatment. Where I live, and hunt, lymes disease is practically an epidemic so I know how you feel. I'm constantly pulling ticks off me after being in the woods, or my backyard, so every 3 months I have blood work done to test for lymes. So far I've been lucky, but it's probably just a matter of time for me considering the tick population where I live and the amount of time I spend in the woods between work and hunting. Anyway, good luck on your opening day.

Deer season can wait. Lyme disease won't.

Just think about that young'un and all the deer seasons you've got ahead of ya with him. Loosing a couple of days of this one just to be safe is well worth it.

Good luck.

Yep seriously Dwin, get it checked out. A few days missed of hunting season is worth getting better.

Does the area where you were bit resemble a bullseye ? That is usually the case. I've tested before also, and not sure if the aching joints work that fast, but glad you are being sure about it, good luck !!

Too is right, look for a bull's eye rash, a tell tale sign of lymes. They will draw a "lymes titer"... really sounds like it came on fast, which isn't typical of lymes, but as with all illnesses... anythings possible! Best of luck!

Re: I May Have Lyme Disease!!!!!!!

Do not hesitate! Having had Lyme myself I can tell you that it will make you feel worse before you get better if it is not taken care of promptly. The complications are nothing to mess with, but if it's treated early you should have good results. One of my friends wound up being hospitalized for some time from Lyme. Let us know how you make out.

Re: I May Have Lime Disease!!!!!!!

Thanks guys for the good wishes!!!!!!!

Well I went to the doctor this morning and he told me if it was a seed tick it probably wasn't lyme disease but to be sure he gave me the antibiotic that kills lyme disease and other related diseases.

He said it did leave an aweful big rash around the bite area and was probably just an alergic reaction from haveing being in there for so long. He said I did the right thing by coming in and we both agreed there was no reason to take any chances whether I had it or not.

And as for the pains I was having, he said it could be a combination of soreness from being on the tractor all day saturday and the change in weather flaring up my arthritis. But now I know alot more about Lymes Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever(they need a shorter name). And I only lost 3 1/2 hours of work and no vacation.

Re: I May Have Lyme Disease!!!!!!!

He said that blood test wouldn't show it for sure, it could go either way. It could be positive and not have it or could come back negative and have it.

He said it would be to early for a blood test to show anything for sure. As long as I take the antibiotic it will get rid of it if I have it and won't hurt me if I don't.

Sure glad it is that simple.

Re: I May Have Lyme Disease!!!!!!!

Man that sucks. I hope you get better soon. For anybody wondering, if you get bitten by a tick put it in something that it cant get out of. If you start getting a rash or itching like maddhunter take the tick and get it tested for lyme disease. Its faster to get results from the tick than if you test yourself. If the tick has the disease then they can start treating you sooner.
