Gripping your Bow

Re: Gripping your Bow

When I first started shooting last year I used to grip the bow. I was getting very ticked at the way I was shooting. Then my brother informed me to shoot with my hand open. Now once I release the arrow, my hand closes to catch the bow. Been shooting that ever since. Also got alot better too!

an open open hand with your fingers pointing down range cannot be relaxed. Just make sure your hand is relaxed this will put less twist and torque on your bow. gl

Open palm no doubt. Closing the fist creates hand torque problems.

This is so true!

I was getting a tad frustrated after shooting well at 10 and 20 yards only to blow my grouping at 30 yards. All my shots started going to the right. Most were in the liver area but some were a bit further back. So I went back and shot at 10 and 20 some more and didn't have any problems. So I asked a bowhunter friend about it and he said to watch my grip. He was right. All is well now. laugh.gif

Re: Gripping your Bow

First time I ever shot a bow at the dealer, I shot with open fingers instinctfully. How do I know I did? Because the bow went flying out of my hand. Talk about embarassing!! And I was looking to buy my first bow from this guy. I can only imagine what he was thinking.

Re: Gripping your Bow

I think what is meant when people say a slightly closed fist is that they want there fingers relaxed as well. Not holding the bow, but just slightly bent not perfectly stright. this seems more comfortable to me, but not any more accurate.

Re: Gripping your Bow

open or closed it doenst matter except what works for you.. i shoot with a relaxed grip . the thumb and index finger touch and the other 3 arre tucked under..

the fingers must be relaxed . if you shoot open hand and have the fingers stiff , it creates bow torque.. so its much simplier to just close them and keep them the heck away from those nasty broadheads.. grin.gif

Pretty much, the same here. Open fingers leave the web of your hand as a fulcrum for the bow to rock or pivot on. I maintain a constant grip the whole way through my draw & release. My wrist stays slightly bent and my grip is kinda like the "O.K." sign.........thumb and index finger meet in front........other 3 fingers point downward along the front of the grip.
