CDubWSR
i was thinking that most of the human odor that deer smell probably comes from your hair and breathe cause no matter what you do those two things are still going to produce some odor. due to the oil in your hair and nobodies breathe is ever scent free, it atleast smells like listerine. i have decided that if i were to wash my clothes in scent free detergent, wash my body in scent free soap, wear knee high scent free boots, wear my normal pants and jacket with the pants tucked in the boots and the waste wrists color tight on the jacket, a scentlock or scentblocker full head and face covering, and spray down good with a scent elimination product like white lightening, that i would cut down almost all of my human odor without spending 300 bux for a new pair of pants and a jacket. does anybody else think that this would be effective or make a substantial difference? Guest lobsterman
Re: idea about scent elimination.... hmm... all i use is a little scent eliminating spray before i go in the woods, i personally dont believe all the "hype" about the total scent elimination, but thats just my opinion... CDubWSR
Re: idea about scent elimination.... well i always play the wind too, but you never know when somethin might just happen to wander up downwind. i already do everything other than wear the head covering. i just figured that would be a way to cut down the odor alot.... i dunno just an idea. BowJoe
Re: idea about scent elimination.... I think playing the wind and getting up high are much better than spending $500 on a complete outfit. Since I am hunting the majority of my season on the ground in a blind I will most likely wear my scentlok suit. I'll also play the wind easier and more effectively since I can move wherever I need to avoid the wind.
mainebuck
Re: idea about scent elimination.... Your thoughts are right on and should be used in combination with paying attention to the wind, not as a substitute to it. One thing you forgot. your hands. I put on scentblocker gloves when I get dressed, before walking in to my stand. Palms tend to sweat, especially this time of year. This prevents your scent from getting on any foliage or on your ladder or climbing sticks. I had deer directly under me on opening day practially with their nose on my climbing stick and did not get busted. Also, I don't put on my scentlok headcover until I get to the stand. There's a chance my head will brush up against a branch or something, hopefully not, but I think the benefit of not having a sweaty head outweighs any scent protection it offers during the walk in. It's hard enough to breathe in that thing sitting still, nevermind hiking in.
Guest tyshe17
Re: idea about scent elimination.... I mix and match systems too, but I always get high and watch the wind. From what I have read, your head emits so much scent that a scentblocker hood gets "saturated" in no time. Tominator
Re: idea about scent elimination.... Don't know. I always wear my hair pretty short, but during bow season I wear it extremely short. I never wear a hat while bowhunting that I wear any other time if that makes sense. In other words, I have hunting hats that are used only when hunting and they always get sprayed down.
billkay
Re: idea about scent elimination.... Might want to keep the pants outside the bots. That way, any scent forced out of the boot as you step will go through the pants/scent lok first. Scent lok and the other brands are great but a majority of their success comes from the fact that the hunters that use it have a pre-hunt scent reduction regiment. It probably includes all the things you listed and more. Just wearing the outfit and nothing more will probably work only a bit better as not having one on. HarvDog
Re: idea about scent elimination.... I always keep my hair VERY short to begin with (high and tight) then a wear a camo hat sprayed down with scent-away. And when I'm showering in my scent-away products, I brush my teeth with a baking soda paste I made with...well baking soda and water. too_pointer
Re: idea about scent elimination.... I see them advertise a mouth spray scent system now. I would be curious to see some results from people using it. They make it sound pretty impressive, and it does make sense also. too_

I use a cover scent (real earth). I was my entire body, including my hair with the green carbon bar. I also make sure my standard run of the mill cammo is hanging outside all the time.... Thats it. I still get busted on occasion but it works fine for me.
