Deer Decoys

I used a Montana doe decoy last year, the first season I've ever tried a decoy. I had it set up about 30 yards directly down wind of me, not really expecting a deer to walk right up to it. Well to my surprise a 5x5 120" class buck walked straight to it, grunting steady as he walked, and didn't pay any attention to me, or my scent. At least until I let go with my 7mm mag. The last thing that went through my mind before I shot was "I can't beleive he just walked infront of me like that" LOL! I was so impressed I went out and bought another one.

I've used my 3-D bow target as a decoy before. Shot a 120" 8-point that was completely fixated on the decoy. I've also had deer skirt the decoy and go by me out of bow range.

Re: Deer Decoys

I use the Renzos. Have had the full bodied ones in the past and it was way too much effort to get it out there. I can set up a small herd with the Renzos if I so desire, and never have to worry about the weight or bulk. Every deer will react differently. Some ignore it, some head straight for, some, especially does, will bolt instantly. I add a small piece of white faux fur to the tal and an ear or two of each of my dekes for movement. Have fewer problems with does bolting.
