morning vs evening

how do you guys compare mornings vs evening where you hunt?in my case the areas i hunt isnt too good in the morning because its almost impossible to get to my stand sites without spooking the feeding deer.there is a swamp with a horrible tangle of briars and undergrowth that blocks sneaking in from behind.

Re: morning vs evening

this is close to a post I just started. didn't see this one right away. once the temps cool off the morning hunts seem to get better. In your case, it may be worth cutting a decent trail through those briars to give you a good entry route. I did something similar last year. I cut a trail through a slough as a way to get into my spot which was opposite of the way the deer would be coming from. didn't spook them that way.

50-50 here just depends on what part of my land i hunt on the back side is good in the morning and the right side in the evening...right side is a clear-cut.... back is thick hardwoods...september i usually see deer from 2pm till 745pm and from october on 7am till like 11am

I have had the most luck in the mornings, I hunt in a transition area and I can easily access it from the backside of where they are feeding from at night. They funnel right to me ussually between 8:15-8:45, they have been using this travel route for around 4 years now and I have taken many bucks and does in this same stand.

For me, evening hunts seem to produce more sightings and opportunities in the early season. However, as October comes to an end and November approaches I find that my morning activity goes WAY up and the afternoon activity seems to decrease a little bit.

I agree. Another thing to remember, is that with evening hunts your loosing daylight, morning hunts your gaining daylight. Another good time to try is the 10am-2pm time frame. A lot of nice bucks are seen during those hours as well. Best part is that the deer will be out of the fields when your headed in, and you'll be on watch during through the lunch period when many other guys are headed out of the woods!!![/b] wink.gif

ditto with them have killed most in afternoons but love hunting those cool mornings! I just make sure I get out there at least an hour before daylight if not earlier this will help[ you spook as few of deer as possible.

Re: morning vs evening

I find this time of year they move in the am when it is cooler out (the afternoon's are still in the high 80's low 90's). because of the afternoon heat, evening movement is at a minamum. but once the weather cools down i'll see them at any time.
