Guest TerryH
I have a Smith and Wesson Model 629 44 magnum, and I am wanting to mount a scope on it. Is there a mount that I can get for it without having the gun drilled and tapped for scope mounts.
hangunnr
Re: Scope Mount Does your gun have the newer style front sight as in the picture or is the front edge squared off? If your gun is the same as pictured it is already drilled and tapped. If you have the older model, there are a couple mounts available. Let me know which you have and I'll track down a mount for you. hangunnr
popgun
Re: Scope Mount Try: http://www.mountsplus.com/thestore/SMITH_WESSON_MOUNT.html I think if one company makes one, several companies make them. ....popgun
WNY_Whitetailer
Re: Scope Mount Check out Jack Weigand's Web Site. I have a Weigand Scope mount on my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter and it is rock solid. I would buy from him again with no hesitation... hangunnr
Re: Scope Mount Your options are somewhat limited if you don't want to drill and tap. Brownells lists a no drill mount manufactured by B-Square. The part number is 122-200-110. I've got one of the older versions of this mount and have had no problems with it. hangunnr

WNY_Whitetailer
Re: Scope Mount Have the gun Drilled and Tapped and be done with it. It's no big deal and you will be happier in the end.
Guest TerryH
Re: Scope Mount Will they drill and tap it under the existing rear sight? How much does this typically cost?
hangunnr
Re: Scope Mount A good smith would be able to hide the drilled and tapped holes under the original sight when it's installed. The problem is, if you were wanting to go with one of the Weigan type mounts is the front screw size is different from the old style S&W sights and the new. This would present a problem. I really can't answer how much a smith would charge for this service. I get my small machine shop services for free. If I were to hazard a guess I would say $30-$50 would be in the ballpark. I've known guys that charged a flat rate of $10 per hole drilled and tapped if they already had the required tools. hangunnr
