Guest TerryH
I was thinking of getting a 17 Mach 2 so I can get a little more speed and distance for squirrels and other small game. I was looking at the Marlin Model 9172 I think. It is a good looking little gun and reasonably priced. Does anyone know much about this gun, or could recommend a good gun in this caliber that is similarly priced?
David_218
Re: 17 Mach 2 If I were planning to buy a .17 Rimfire (which I am NOT) of the two choices being the .17 HMR & .17 Mach2; I'd stick with the Mach2 as it is a great deal cheaper than the .17 HMR. Personally If I needed more speed you might go with the time-proven .22 Magnum or just stay with the .22 LR as it has plenty of power for Small Game such as Squirrels. If you really need more power, then I suggest you look into buying one of the .22 Centerfires. Here, atleast you can reload them and work-up reduced loads for SG. I personally have a .22 Hornet of which I can handload down for Squirrels. This route is much more cheaper than buying a box of "nonreloadable" .17 HMR's or .17 Mach2 at some $6 to $12 per box.
