Since this was my last opportunity to bow hunt in Mississippi before I leave for Iowa and Kansas I decided to try to take some more does where I’ve been passing them up hunting for a shooter buck.

Friday afternoon I hunted in a ground blind I made from mother nature’s materials on the edge of a food plot. A 2 year old 8 point appeared about 100 yards away with a spike around 5:00. A few minutes later a doe stepped out 60 yards to my left. The doe started feeding across but out of range for a shot. When she was about 50 yards to my right the spike and the 8 point had worked their way around to her other side. The 8 point actually bumped her to move toward me. She was hugging the edge of the field when she stepped into my right shooting less than 10 yards away. I wacked her and she barely made it out of the field before she crashed. The bucks went off to my right and disappeared for a minute or so and then trotted toward where they came in the field stopping to look around for danger. They didn’t see any danger so they went back to feeding. About 45 minutes later they were feeding anywhere from 15 to 30 yards in front of my blind. cool.gif The 8 point gets an ata boy for the assist. Hope he makes it through the season because he has great potential for a 2 year old buck down here.

Saturday I spent an hour making another ground blind out of brush to hunt another spot. At 6:15 a bigger doe than the other one I killed appeared about 50 yards away. She fed her way right to me. With a 25 yard broadside shot offered I let the arrow fly. I pulled the shot a few inches left hitting her inside the edge of her shoulder blade and that Montec G5 penetrated through the off shoulder blade too with the arrow buried to the vanes. It flat knocked her off her feet. shocked.gif She plowed ground with her nose before she broke my arrow and got back up on her front feet. shocked.gif She entered the woods about 15 yards to the left of my blind and I heard her crash right behind me. She only went about 75 yards (50 yards behind me) and left an easy blood trail to follow. Those Montec G5's deliver amazing penetration.

Unfortunately, the batteries in my digital camera went dead when I was going to take a picture of the 1st doe. Here’s a picture of the ground blind where I killed the 1st one. I took this picture the previous weekend and built the blind the weekend prior to that. If you look close, you can see the knock and vanes of my arrow where my bow is hanging on the bow holder. I haven’t found any commercial blind that works as good as natural cover. None of those deer ever knew they were in danger.
