waterfowler_gal
I am a bow hunter... I will be hunting this next week for deer in Minnesota however I will be shotgun hunting for turkey mid-october before the rifle season has opened for deer. There is my favorite turkey spot however it it 4 hours away from where I live on public land. However the spot is not the prime deer hunting land but I don't want to pester anyone by turkey hunting who is set up for archery but I really don't think anyone would set up on this land as it is two high ridges you have to climb and then it levels off and is pretty turkey there. I know as a hunter how especially for bow the chances you take hunting however both seasons are open at the sametime... any suggestions or ideas? It is not like I can zip down to see if anyone is set up and I don't want to waste my time either...
redbeard
Re: My Dilema I see your concern, as you will probably be covering alot ground in search of a flock to bust. I would expect with your woodsmanship skills it won't be a problem, beside most deer hunters are there for the daybreak til 9 hour and then again at dusk. So that leaves you plenty of time to roam/bust and call that fall bird in. Hopefully it won't be too crowded for you and you should be able to judge where folks may be from the parked vehicles. Most deer hunters don't tramps like us turk chasers, so they will likely be close. Good luck to you!
JimT
Re: My Dilema thats the risk anyone takes sharing seasons in the fall. Bird hunting and deer season mix here and while it can be irritating, no one should get mad if a hunt gets spoiled.... Thats just he way it is. I would not hesitate to hunt turkeys if I were you. Nut
Re: My Dilema I agree with Jim and redbeard. When I go on public lands I do my best to avoid others Nothing to do but wave and move on when it does. People usually hunt the same spots year after year. If your spot is away from the heavier used areas it still should be fine.
mo_hunter
Re: My Dilema It could go either way you could help them out by moving deer by them. Go for it
Turkeygirl
Re: My Dilema Archery and fall turkey mix hear also but I don't usually encounter many other hunters on the farmland I hunt. I wouldn't worry too much. If you run into a bow hunter there, then move; not much you can do about it if you didn't know.
