TreeStandBowHunter
Is it me or has there been a reoccurring theme lately. Ever since Sept. 11, 2001, we've seen T-shirts, posters, articles, e-mails, you name it with the all too common theme "America -- love it or leave it." An example would be that my fellow Marines, Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and Coast Gurdsmen are out there fighting because our government put them there. A lot of people think the media divide our country into two distinct separate groups at the time we went to war with Iraq? A person was either "with us" or "against us." Essentially, if you were in the "with us" category, you were pro-soldier and anti-Saddam. And so if you were "against us" that meant you were anti-soldier and pro-Saddam. I'll tell you right now that my motto is that of "America, love it or leave it" or "Get with the American program or get out"

Guest Andrea
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? I would have to say that I am the pro-soldier, anti-Saddam-bin Laden type myself.
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] "Get with the American program or get out" [/ QUOTE ] Define this please [/ QUOTE ] Sure thing Nut, I would be glad too but just nobody get offended. First off, english is the language here, anything else is fine as long as it stays at home. Secondly, you will be looked upon if you fit the description, if you don't like it, you should of stayed in your own country. Thirdly, don't come here trying to change our laws/rules/regs just so you feel at home. Your home is over there, this is our home. You know what, let's cut to the chase here, I am sick and tired of fighting for this country only to have to deal with people trying to change our way of life here in our own country...and I am not talking about 9/11 either even though that changed our way of life as well. Let me stop there, one step at a time Right now I am only trying to find out how people in here feel about blind patriotism. I bet not too many people in here even know what it means anyway
Nut
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? Thanks. I agree with that But what if theSwedish Bikini Team wanted to have it required that they play volleyball in every state twice a year?. I will admit that I am not blind in my patriotism. I always ask questions to find out the reasons "why" because of my distrust in the government and the politicians that pollute it.(err I think y'all aready know I dispise politicians )
oldksnarc
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? Amen. There is nothing wrong with honoring your heritage. But, you're not Irish-American, African- American, Italian-American or any of the other -Americans. Your either American or your not. This crap of saying I can't celebrate Christmas because it offends you; or say "Under God" because it offends you; or say I can't kick your butt because you burn my flag but my burning yours offends you. I'll honor and respect your heritage - just don't shove it down my throat and violate my freedoms and rights because they offend yours. You come here because you want a better way of life. If you want what you had - go back. I can't go to where you came from and force my rights and freedoms on you - don't come here and do it to me. You're either American or your not. Some of the Government is good but I will sorta agree that some of the Government is crooked. I am not a politician either but I do try and fight for some of the conservative rights because they are usually better than liberal beliefs. popgun
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? Blind Patriotism.... My Grandfather served in WWI and lost his hearing because of it. My Father served in the Army Air Corps in WWII and then in the Air Force until he retired in 1966. He had served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. I served during the Vietnam era. I went where I was ordered to go. I did what I was told to do. I did not question or condemn my Commander in Chief. I did not question those who had authority over me and my life. There was a long period between Vietnam and the Wars in Iraq. I think a lot of Americans forgot....... There is no longer a Draft or obligated service. I fear that, although patriotism is not dead yet; that it is dying...... I hope I don't live to see the day that Blind Patriotism is dead. I guess I was a "Blind Patriot", and still am to this day. ....popgun
johnf
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? Sinco De Mayo is a Mexican holiday. This isn't Mexico. We get off for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Good Friday. If you don't like getting off for holidays get a job at a convienience store or hotel. Oh yeah they already have that one covered. If you're so proud of your great home contry then go home. If this is home stop waiving someone elses flag. If you hate the military go somewhere that doesn't have one and quit complaining about mine. If you want government medical care go to Canada or Mexico and stop driving up my insurance rates. (no offence Buckee) If you don't want to live in a coutry where people can own guns, go somwhere that it's illigal. California maybe. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? I would give up my life rather than betray my country. Gator
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? Blind patriotism, never heard that term actually. But my theory is this, this is America, put your heart in it or get or a$$ out. I am so sick and tired of crap like a driving test being administered is Spanish, I mean geez, if they can't read AND understand English, they don't need to be driving!! Like oldksnarc said, either your American, or your not!!!!!!!!

Master_Chief
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? After 23 years on Active Duty I have to agree with Tree on this one. When we were overseas we complied with local laws, customs and traditions while we were there (albeit a short time) I expect nothing less when people are in our country. It is a free country and if you don't like it you are "free" to leave.
Elwood
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? I agree with Tree I am personally tired of bending over backwards to make people feel at home in America. If you leave your country for America, leave it all. After 19 years of Air Force service and counting, I don't think anyone could question my patriotism Elwood

markyj987
Re: Blind patriotism...Where do you stand??? Growing up, my father instilled in me great respect for our nation, for our flag, and most importantly respect for those who have fought to keep us free. At 6 and 7 years old, I went to the cemetary on Memorial Day to place flags beside the graves of those who served. Later in the day (on more than one occasion), a somber parade and remembrance was marked by a cold, steady rain. At that time, we were blessed by a truly great President (Reagan) whose love for this nation and ability to bring that love to the people was incredible. I'm I a blind patriot? Perhaps. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the term makes me think that blanket conformity with social norms and lack of questioning government's role is out of the question. Overall, I'm supportive of the government, but do not wholeheartedly trust in our elected leadership--do do so without question would be a failure of democracy.
