Guest Andrea
Re: Hurricane Rita Okay....the mayor of Houston is saying that they do NOT have enough vehicles to help evacuate all those people who do not have transportation. Okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....... you'd think with all the people that like to volunteer, they would put their heads together and get donated vehicles from another area. Galveston is an island, the storm surge will put it under water. They are going to have a repeat of Katrina so to speak if they don't do something BEFORE it hits. What a mess. texastrophies
Re: Hurricane Rita I think we are seeing a lot of knee jerk reaction to the New Orleans debacle and things here in the Houston area are getting blown out of proportion. My son's school, along with numerous other schools were cancelled today, still approximately 72 hours before land fall, and they still do not have any ideal where it is going. Somewhere between northern Mexico and New Orleans. With the latest projection being around Palacios, which is approximately 100 miles SW of the Houston/Galveston area. I may ended up regretting this, but I, living on the east side of Houston, am just anticipating getting a little wind and a lot of rain. Now with that said, I am still monitoring the reports and am ready to get on I-10 and head east if Rita would happen to change it's direction and come in closer to the Houston area. Hope I didn't jinx myself by posting this, but I just get the feeling that due to the N.O. deal, everybody is over reacting.

jcwa
Re: Hurricane Rita Well I guess I'm going to just ride it out. I'm going to have to tape up, board up. tie down and strap down what I can. As long as it isn't a direct hit, it shouldn't be to bad. Trust me. These things don't die as soon as they hit land.

huntrman
Re: Hurricane Rita I totally agree with the others saying leave. This beast is a CAT 5 hurricane. Not something you want to mess with, for sure. I know you feel some obligation to stay with your home, but life is more precious. Be careful and good luck. Bruce Schmeck
Re: Hurricane Rita Good luck and God bless everyone in Rita's path. This will definately stretch our disaster relief resources to their limit but I'm sure that the country will pull together and get through it. Guest BuckMaster058
Re: Hurricane Rita Saw last night on the news that it was upgraded to a Category 5. But didn't know it was the third powerful. Heard some say they were leaving, but texastrophies and jcwa I never went through anything like this but maybe you should rethink and get out of dodge. Like many said if you are in the path of it this isn't a storm to take lightly. Thoughts and prayers are with you all and can't wait to hear from you all that you made it out OK.
