MCH
Re: Update on hurricane Rita Yep, 165 mph winds. We've already received reservations from Houston couples to stay at some cabins near Broken Bow Lake.

Turkeygirl
Re: Update on hurricane Rita Wow...things do not look good for sure. All we can do is pray and leave it in the Lord's hands. I'm glad I live in the northeast where all we contend with are snow storms. Best of luck to the people down south. hutchies
Re: Update on hurricane Rita Yep they are showing once it does take land that the eye is going to be right upon us when it come thru here. I heard a guestimate of 22inches of rain for our area. Guess I better park the jon boat by the front porch. We get that much and the lake maybe up in my neighborhood. If you go thru the woods we are maybe 200 yards from the water.

With 3 creeks running through the place, that means where going to be flooded here... May have to push all the cows to higher ground... Guest Andrea
Re: Update on hurricane Rita All we can do is pray that it either wobbles to the south and continues that way or that it weakens once it gets closer to shore. ( They do that sometimes) If it continues on it's current track then I hope and pray that it does NOT slow its forward progress. The slower it's forward progress...the more damage it does. I thought Ivan was never going to end. The winds started getting bad around 10:00pm and didn't end until the next morning around 7:30. What a nightmare. texastrophies
Re: Update on hurricane Rita I am getting ready to leave work, won't be back here until at least Monday, but will probably check in a couple of times from the house tomorrow. Right now I am planning on staying around, I think it will be making land fall far enough to the south of Houston that we won't have it to bad, but if anything changes, we will be joining all the other thousands of evacuees. Hearing it is taking over 5 hours to get from Galveston to Houston, about 45 miles. See ya in a couple of days
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Update on hurricane Rita Our hospital just got put on alert by the Governor's office. We're expecting an influx of patients that will be transfered from the evacuation area. Plus, there's a large women's prison system here and they're transferring 90 pregnant female inmates from the prison hospital in Galveston to our are. IowaDeerHunter
Re: Update on hurricane Rita It looks bad now, and we can only pray that it weakens. My cousin is living down there right now with his girlfriend in Houston. She is due in early to mid October. They evacuated to College station. But 5 miles took them 45 minutes. Please pray for everyone.
huntrman
Re: Update on hurricane Rita Yeah this thing is a beast and to top it all off, it still has ~12 hours of warm water to go through. The hurricane will start going through some changes on its way to landfall. The eye will change over and over again, and it could possibly get to 185mph winds. Sure it will weaken a little before it hits land, BUT this is still something that you don't want to mess with. If I lived in that area, there would be no question that I would be out of there in a hurry. God Bless and good luck to those who are in the path. wtnhunt
Re: Update on hurricane Rita Not looking good, sure hope it weakens before it makes landfall. Sustained winds reported on the news this morning are 175 mph, calling it a monster category 5.

Gator
Re: Update on hurricane Rita Heard on the news this morning that it looks like it will hit a little closer to Houston/Galveston. Not good. Sad thing is, we still have 2 months of hurricane season to go........... Also read yesterday that the storm season we are seeing could last another 10-15 years. It has NOTHING to do with global warming either, it is the pattern the ocean is in.
c_lou
Re: Update on hurricane Rita That's one big storm. Prayers sent for all of those in the path. Is that another low pressure system spinning east of the Bahamas?
