JPGS22
Re: Fort Belvoir, Virginia Hey HarvDog, I've hunted will my brother at Fort Belvoir. He is stationed there. I don't know for sure but I think it is archery only, but you would have to look into that. The deer have to be four points on a side, but that's not a probably I've seen some huge deer there. Stinger-Hunter
Re: Fort Belvoir, Virginia I was stationed near there also but have never hunted it. I've been there a million times. If you go down the road from where the PX is at near the golf course there are numerous deer in the morning and evening. I think you have to qualify on a 20 yards range to be able to hunt it, but there are huge deer there and millions of does.
JPGS22
Re: Fort Belvoir, Virginia yeah you do have to qualify at 20 yards to hunt there. It's not hard, but it's time consuming so get there early before you want to hunt.

AJ
Re: Fort Belvoir, Virginia I hunted there from 1991-1995. Requirements are: Hunting is archery only. Some areas are elevated stand only sections. You may not hunt from the ground. Hunters must provide their own stands. Must have completed IBEP safety course and state hunters safety course. Must show proficiency. You have to shoot 2 out of 3 arrows in a 9" circle at 20 and 30 yards. The shooter shoots one shot per target at least 2 have to be inside the circle. The arrows must be tipped with broadheads. If mechanicals are used, the paper target has to have at least a 7/8" cut. Once the season starts, they qualify hunters only on certain days and times. They are open to hunting Tuesday - Saturday. Training has priority over hunting. Your area may not be open when you want to hunt. If you are in the field before and/or after legal hunting hours, your bow has to have a pad lock installed so it can not be drawn. (I don't make the rules, I am just relaying them.) Hunters must check in prior to hunting and must be out of the woods by a certain time. When time changes (near the rut) hunters must leave before dark to get back in time. There are some nice deer on Belvoir, at least there were. I have seen a few BC class bucks and I have seen multiple PY bucks taken every year. I have taken a few 8 pointers, a huge 7 pointer, and many does. I got tired of dealing with the military and their set in cement rules. Signing up for hunting areas was a huge pain. It was almost impossible to get a good area for the first few days of the season. There are only so many civilian slots open so it gets tough. Personally, unless I worked near it and was able to hunt after work, I would choose Quantico over Belvoir.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Fort Belvoir, Virginia I would rather hunt Belvoir than Quantico. Quantico's check in time in the evening is impossible to make unless you hunt near the check-in station. I was 7 minutes late getting in and they banned me for a week. Check in time is like 15 minutes past sundown. Also, if you shoot something in the last hour you have to check in first and then they tell you if you can go track it or not. You can't call in, you have to physically check in and then based on where you report the deer is, they make the decision. Isn't the last hour the best time to hunt? It's totally bogus. I quit hunting there after only my second time going out. Oh yeah, and the quantico dnr guys are absolutely crazy about checking your equipment even if you're in the woods, they drive like crazy down the gravel roads trying to find as many hunters as possible so they can check your broadheads to ensure they are legal. I was doing some still hunting when a jerk in a jeep sped down the road near me - he saw me, then pulled over slammed the door talked as loud as possible and then sped off - I'm thinking A$$!!!!! Can you see I'm hunting here - They complain there are too many deer and then they make it difficult to hunt the land. I'd never hunt there again.
