I own a Remington 700 ADL in .270. I love the gun. We have many guns in our closet, but when it comes to hunting whitetail the .270 is a hot caliber. You can get some decent ranges out to the gun, my max shot with it was 242yards and the deer did not move an inch. I shoot the Remington 140gr Core-Lokt Ultra. With this shell I can shoot consistant 3/4" groups at 100yards, out of a bench. According to the Remington website you are still carrying 1200 ft/lbs at 400 yards, that is plenty to put down a deer. Plus the gun has little to no recoil.

270 is a necked down 30-06 and a lot of the people like the 270 a bunch. if your wanting soemthign to shoot deer and blackbear your fine withthe 270 but if you want to go qirth something with a little more bite to it go to the 308 or 30-06 you get a bit more weight for your bullet and a bit more knock down power

rob k

for me and i am bias i prefer the 308 to any other caliber for any kind of hunting

Thanks for all the repleys it is mostly for deer and most of my shots are no less then a 100 yards so i think i will be ok with it and if i do draw a bear tag i think i would use my dads 06 auto loader lol a lil bit faster on the second shot if i need to be lol

If you don't feel the .270 Win is enough gun, the .30-06 won't do the job either. They are about identical in performance. Using today's components you can take just about anything in this country with the .270 Win. The .270 Win, the .280 Rem, and the .30-06 are all outstanding performers on big game.

Re: What do you all think of the .270

I have owned a couple and it is a great cartridge. I do recommend going with a Remington rifle. It will outlast and outshoot the other, it also has a better trigger than most and can be adjusted by a good gunsmith. I will add that if you get a new rifle, strip the gun down and make sure that it has a good wood to metal fit, clean the barrel, and tighten everthing down well before shooting it. I have taken rifles and just tightened screws or did a little stock work to releive the barrel and had them go from shooting 3in groups to less than 1in groups at 100yds. Good Luck.

Get the 30/06 over the 270. More bullet choices & factory loads than the 270. Plus when it comes time to go out west----the 30/06 is a much better elk caliber than the 270.

Re: What do you all think of the .270

Well i am gonna go look at the 270 this weekend and see how much they run i think that would suit me just find sents i will only be takeing deer with it and most of my shots wont be over 100 yards if that maybe only 50 to 70 yards really and i doubt i will be heading out west any time soon lol im way to broke for that one and from what all you have said i think it will take a bear with out a problem

but which one would you buy the remington 700 packge with the scope and all or a savage package with the scope and are the scopes any good i will only use it till i can save up the money and buy a good one and put that one on my 30 30

Thanks all for your replys

Have to agree with AJ. The scopes on the package guns while they are functional, they are not all that great. Bought my wife a savage model 10 package gun with a scope about 3 or 4 years ago, I changed the simmons scope out to a nikon buckmaster scope this year, what a difference.
