Illinoisbowhunter
Ive got the Quaker boy Bleat n heat as well, its very similar to the original can from Primos. They are both considered "The Can." Only use it during the pre-rut and rut. I dump it over 2-3 times every 15 minutes or so during the rut. Mornings usually generate more success with using the can since bucks are out cruising doe bedding areas at this time. You may also blow in the bottom hole to make a more versatile bleat. As for the grunt calls, they can be used with the Can. Do a few grunts after you have tipped the can over. Makes the sequence sound like a buck is tending a hot doe, other bucks in the area will be unable to resist. There is no really set amount you have to do to get them in, just sound like a deer really would. A grunt call is also effective with rattleing. The most important thing is to use them at the right time, if not your only educating the deer.
wtnhunt
Re: Deer calls I use a primos original can, get mixed resposes from it calling blind. Early season will get curious does coming in to check out who is there. I usually call 2 to 3 calls in a sequence and call every 15 to 20 minutes. I use the grunt call as well. I have a couple grunt calls I use regularlay, one is a no name brand old o ring style call, has a good tone to it. The knight and hale ez grunter sounds pretty good, I use short soft grunts usually 2-4 in a sequence also about 15 to 20 minutes apart. I do occasionally mix up my calling sequences with some grunts and bleats.
bowhtr1
Re: Deer calls I think I have owned them all at one time or another. I bought the original grunt call that was a friction call. I killed several deer with it. I then bought a mouth blown call that sounded like a duck. Anyway I have had the most responses the first couple of years they came out. Now it seems the deer are not responding as well. Even when I can see the deer they will look my way and keep eating or walking most of the time. But on at least once or twice a year they come looking. The best time I have found was late in the evening. The second best is at dawn. If I dont see a deer I will bleat of grunt twice only. Onces to get there attention and another to let them get the direction. I feel if you do it more than that they will pinpoint your location. I will do it every 30mins. This will only be two hours after sunup and two hours before sunset. I have rattled and grunted during the day without much results. We have plenty of does so they dont respond well to rattling. I have never had a deer spook from my calling using a grunt or a bleat. You just have to keep trying. I mix the grunts and bleats during the rut but only grunt during the early part of the season. I do use the primos can now and like it. This last weekend of the season last year I had a 4 point come in to it. I got him on video. Good luck.
