Guest BuckMaster058
Looking to buy a digital camera for this upcoming rifle season. What do you all have and how much did it cost you? What I'm looking for is good picture quality, easy to use, and willing to shell out $100 or a little more. Thank you for whatever information you can give me. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Digital Camera of choice? Please help!!! [ QUOTE ] I bet $100 this gets moved..... [/ QUOTE ] Yep. Anyway, I've got a Kodak, not sure of the model, that I picked up at Wally World for about $125. It uses SD cards for storage, same as my trail cams. Takes decent pics and the download software is pretty easy to install and use.
bfletch7441
Re: Digital Camera of choice? Please help!!! My wife probably has the same Kodak as Texan, and she loves it too. I'm gonna shell out some money for one with a zoom and higher resolution at some point, but the Kodak will do until Christmas. Ben
billygoat
Re: Digital Camera of choice? Please help!!! I bought an HP the other night, on clearance at the WM... to use with my Trail cams... it takes the SD card, so when I go out to my TC's I swap the SD cards and review the pics. I also will double as a nice field cam. Cost me a whole 88 dollars!

I just got the Canon Powershot S2 IS for my birthday about 2 weeks ago. I am still getting the hang of all it's functionality. This is a very serious camera. 5.3MegaPixels and takes outstanding DVD quality video clips with sound to boot. You can even snap stills while in film mode. You can't do that with SLRs. For super intense photo sessions you can attach the camera to a laptop, control camera settings from the laptop and view the display on your monitor. In this remote mode you can snap pictures directly to your harddrive and it will bypass the flash card entirely. Effectively in this mode the camera can take as many photos as the harddrive on your computer will hold. Wish it could do the same with video. That's a software upgrade I will keep my fingers crossed for. It has an integral 12X optical zoom and this lense is great. You can use up to 4x digital zoom on the camera or turn that option off. That gives you a possible magnification ability of up to 48x right out of the box. Remember though that digital zoom degrades picture quality 2x digital zoom effectively turns a 5mp camera to a 2.5mp. You can buy a 2x telephoto adapter lense for this camera. I might do this later. In addition a wide angle lense adapter and filters are also available. The photo software that comes with the camera is awesome. The stitch software allows you to join several photos seamlessly into one. So three shots with a minimal 35% overlap joined becomes a 10.3 Megapixel photo. The results are impressive. There is a color replace mode built into the camera so if your wife is dreaming of repainting a room a certain color. Take a picture of the color she wants, the color you want to replace and the room you want to paint. The camera will do the color swap. It's not perfect because it will pick up everything that is the same color as the wall in the photo and do the swap but it will sure give you an idea of how the choice will look. Anyhow my wife sure liked that function If you have a direct print capable printer you can connect the camera to the printer and print directly from the camera without even turning on the computer. bfletch7441
Re: Digital Camera of choice? Please help!!! Those Canons are nice. I've used the S1 IS, but am thinking about buying the S2 IS for us for Christmas. One thing Leo didn't mention is the Image Stabilizer it has. It sure helps on those long zoom shots. It's amazing how fuzzy the image get's from a little shake with a 12x zoom. Ben
Leo
Re: Digital Camera of choice? Please help!!! You're right about the Image Stabilization Bfletch!!! By default it's always on. It works so good, you just forget about it. I did.

KTMMIKE
Re: Digital Camera of choice? Please help!!! I have a Cannon S1 with IS & 10X optical zoom. What was important for me when looking for a camera was optical zoom & how well it took pics in low light. This one is fantastic. The IS is just icing on the cake.
