Re: poaching

I know the area where they hunt. They hunt behind a gated area. Once a deer is killed they take it to a barn on the property and butcher it up. Load the meat in the jeep and go. Hard to let this keep going on. I know the men personally and I want to do the right thing. Its not fair to other hunters. Wish I could stop these slobs.

I don't know about you but I hate poachers. I know two guys last year shot 13 deer. Want to call the dec but hard to get them to come over. Any advise on how to get these guys busted. These guys ruin it for all hunters. Pure slobs.

Poaching ANY Game Animal is a CRIME, with a Firearm! Those poachers, cought, should NEVER be able to own or even touch a Firearm. mad.gif

Re: poaching

Man, in Wisconsin, the DNR can search your stuff anytime for any suspicion. They've got about unlimited power of access.

I'm surprised your DEC doesn't have the same power. Have you contacted them and they told you this?

How do you know the guys are poaching? (not doubting you, just curious how you know)

Re: poaching

Try to get a few photos with your camera maybe, or put a game camera up nearby to try and catch them in the process. You could try to personally speak to them, but of course confronting any pachers is possibly dangerous. It's hard to know what to do, but I hate poachers all the same. Saw one poach right in front of my eyes from a road in a truck a couple years ago...my mom and I tried to get his license plate number but he took off too fast in his truck with the deer.

I personally know these men and they brag about the amount of deer they shoot.

Yeah, have known a few guys like that before too. Maybe you could find out where they plan to partake in their illegal activity and set up from a distance and watch them with a cell phone and then call the warden when you see them in the act.

Re: poaching

A friend of mine in Ky. has the same problem. He is afraid to call the law on them or run them off, as he is afraid the might burn him out as both he and his wife work away from home.

Some real sorry sobs out there!

Man, there's a fine line between getting info from them and then having them think you turned them in.

Really surprised your DEC isn't willing to check them out. I think I'd keep making calls til they decide to investigate them.

Good luck.

They do investigate but in the county that I live in there is only three dec officers. I'm wondering if the state troopers have any authority in these matters since their response time is so much quicker.

Think county sherriffs and state troopers both could have the authority to deal with them. Would certainly be worth asking.
